Julie Andrews at her most beautiful, complex plot but subtle enough to follow, the Barbados scenery is amazing, the John Barry score is unforgettable, and the sophistication of Edward's direction of wife and Omar Sharif make this an almost forgotten winner. @@yashodadevi9287 Thank you for posting your question. I didn't understand what you meant so I looked back and saw my Nn, still don't understand why I did that - I've deleted it. I first saw the film about a year ago and loved it. I'm a very amateur singer and when asked whose voice I admire the most, the answer is Julie Andrews. I am very sad the operation ruined her vocal chords and ask myself to this day how does she come to terms with it? Her interview about it made me know she is as sweet as the characters she played; think Mary Poppins 😊. My first childhood crush was Omar Sherrif - I thought him so cool that he lived in the Ritz for a few years but never could master bridge - he was a world champion for a time. The film itself? I was always a sucker for love and I learned about the tamarind seed at the same time. Sorry for the lengthy reply - just wanted to put the record straight. Have a happy Christmas and thanks again 🤶😘

What a gem. Thank you for posting this incredible elegant masterpiece of “romantic-spy” movie. I think I’ve must have heard before about this movie, but shame on me for not watching this before. A time when ppl truly created elaborated and very well constructed plots. Unfortunately nowadays, Hollywood seems to be plagued for ppl who barely knows how to write to “create” ( mostly borrowing from old movies) scripts that vaguely resembles a plot or storytelling. It’s all about explosions, gore and a LOT of sex, vulgarity and violence.... Watching a movie nowadays its like eating a meal without any salt, pepper and sauce...and mostly without any juicy steak on it. The Tamarind Seed is a testament that a good well written plot with a few great and capable actors can be very charming, suspenseful and very entertaining. Unfortunately 90% that are thrown in the theaters will never get even close to the good flicks of the past, Good thing we still have youtube to dig for some forgotten pearls from the past.

I remember that too! It wasn't a big hit at all --- can you imagine?! Your mom was probably right, Julie Andrews was a versatile actress but, post-Sound of Music, I think her popularity waned. Or perhaps appeared to; many of us still loved seeing her but Hollywood's style shifted (not for the better) and the executive honchos considered her "irrelevant" or some such nonsense! I thank the person who uploaded this movie; I've wanted to see it for many years and can't wait to finally view it!

I’ll bet this film did well in Britain. Americans were too removed from the Cold War to relate to this. I was in high school when this film came out. We were all about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Robert Redford, Jack Nicholson, etc., very American films. Cold War intrigue in Europe did not intrigue us at that time. Check out Three Days of the Condor and Chinatown for great American films from the 70’s.

And Anthony Quayle was tremendously underrated as well..... He had a knack for playing those type of characters the spies or the officers in the British Army.

Oh My! I loved this movie. It was very good. I enjoyed the way it had no violence and stupid moves. It was well played. I love Omar Sharif and Julie Andrews together in this movie. A good clean film and entertaining. I love spy movies like this. Keeps you wondering who is doing who wrong. I am 57 and I grew up with the clean movie era. I sure miss it today. Thanks for putting this movie on yourtube to watch.

Needless to say that Blake Edwards was a movie director, as a matter of course the beautiful Julie Andrews looks even sophisticated. What an absolutely brilliant film. The cinematography, the music, the scenery and the Stars, WOW! I actually think Dame Julie Andrews is one of the most attractive, talented and eloquent actress' ever. THe cast were superb but the whole movie hung on every move of her soft and inviting lips. Well done for sharing, thank you.
@helenlauer9545
@helenlauer9545 4 жыл бұрын
I admire her too very much . . . but 'eloquent'? She's an actress; she's reading lines, so how can she be praised for being eloquent? Do you mean elegant? She is certainly incredibly elegant. Unless you are referring to her demeanor off camera - but in interviews she always seemed so down to earth and girl-next-door, almost self effacing. Eloquent would be maybe Katherine Hepburn, who was very self-deprecating in the most pointed, socially conscientious way and immensely educated therefore articulate, but never full of airs, very frank, intimidatingly so, and utterly facile in her self expression -- or Jane Fonda, who was extremely influential and clear in her activism. Or Meryl Streep. But Julie Andrews? Like Judy Garland, she just seemed so down to earth and sweet, and rather disarming in her simplicity -- almost studiously plain speaking. Eloquent? Hardly. It would spoil her style.

What a really Good Film, with a plot line successfully lacing together so many different story facets. As always, Omar Sharif is a rewarding joy. I thought at the beginning that Julie Andrews may have been miscast, but her character demeanor 'dove-tailed' into the plot almost perfectly!! The Russian players were well-cast, too. Nice photography throughout. Thanks Retrospective for the appreciated upload.

I remember very well when this film was filmed here in Barbados as I was able to watch quite a bit of it actually being filmed and was even offered to be one of the back ground figures through the contact of one of my friends but I was too busy at the time raising my two young children and refused the offer. As a Barbadian, it is good to see many beautiful parts of our island on screen. It was also good to see Omar and Julie close up. Not one of the best movies but not boring.

The quality of acting in this movie is excellent from top to bottom. I remembered Omar Sharif as just a pretty face when he was younger, but he did a fine job of acting here. Apart from the occasional sexist remark (appropriate to general attitudes when the movie was made), he was so charming. Also, I must give a special shout-out to Anthony Quayle as Mr. Lauder, who was terrific. Julie Andrews was of course wonderful, as she always is.
@hv3115

Oh please..what "sexist" remarks were those? Just because a movie isnt infected with the feminist garbage that the current culture and movies are plagued with doesn't make it sexist. It just means the 70s were the last period when men and women behaved like they are supposed to... and where women looked like women and actually appreciated and wanted men.. which is not what you see in modern movies with obnoxious, toxic "strong empowered" masculine women who are apparently better than men in everything and relish humiliating and emasculating men, and can never stop repeating how they are "strong" and "independent" and dont want or need men.
