Great review. When I first heard it was a prequel to Casino Royale I was immediately sceptical and feared it was going to disappoont but fortunately, this book turned out so much better than I expected.

I was on the fence until the final act, and then Horowitz knocked it out of the park!

What a brilliant review Roland! Thoroughly enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this. As I’ve said to you before, this is my favourite of my continuation novels. It’s leaps & bounds ahead of Horowitz’s first outing with 007 in terms of character, story, plot and quality. If you’re a fan of audiobooks, highly recommend listening to it. Matthew Goode’s narration is superb.

I enjoyed Forever...but I reckon Trigger Mortis is brilliant. The previous continuation novels were only okay 😐

I just finished the book tonight, hence why I found this review. Great Bond story, small scale for the most part compared to bigger scale dangers he faces in the future, but it being his first mission being a double O, it works. My one complaint…. I read TRIGGER MORTIS before this one and the action in that was so much bigger and the climax was so much more bombastic than FOREVER AND A DAY. If you read back to back, the climaxes are on two different levels and the expectation kind of lowers this one…. If I had read this one first, I would’ve truly loved it more. But Trigger Mortis being more “large” with their action set pieces, it really made this book’s action seem small.

What is your favorite Bond novel?

@Skeletor I agree it's a fantastic novel and now Anthony Horowitz is writing a third Bond novel which starts with the death of Scaramanga at the end of "The Man with the Golden Gun". I'm very interested in reading that one.

I guess my favorite would have to be On Her Majesty's Secret Service, although Casino Royale is tying with it most of the time, and for all its flaws I'm very fond of Goldfinger. Moonraker is the one I loved best as a young reader, though - very self-contained.

@Skeletor That's very interesting, I hadn't thought about it to be honest but you got me curious about possibly seeing the end of Bond. I can't wait for this novel to come out!

@@RolandHulme I love OHMSS, one of the best novels in the cannon without a doubt. I think my favorite is From Russia With Love and I have a soft spot for both Live and Let Die and You Only Live Twice.

@Skeletor That's probably one of the most interesting Bond elseworld stories I've ever heard, definitely want to see someone write that story.
