I love nice dark gingerbread spread with unsalted butter. When I was a little child my neighbor was from Yorkshire and moved here to the US with her husband after WWII. She would make gingerbread every Christmas and let me come to help her and it was one of my favorite memories. She passed away a few years ago but her son gave me her recipe box and the pan she always used to make the gingerbread in because he knew how special that time was for me. I now make it every Christmas with my niece and nephews. ❤️

Thankfully Canada has Bird's custard for sale or I'd have to ask my family back home in Tyneside to send me some regularly, as there's nothing better than hot custard on anything rich and delicious like gingerbread. 👍 Especially in an Alberta winter, lovely stick to the ribs puddings. Thanks Cheryl, adding this to my recipe box. 😊 🇨🇦

It’s morning here in Florida and I’m about to run to the store to get these ingredients. I can’t wait to make this!!!
@moniquem7833 жыл бұрын
Maybe a silly question, but which ingredients did you not have? I have a chronic illness and running to the store for a couple of things isn’t an option for me so I do a big shop every 6 weeks or so that I have delivered, plus a weekly fruit and veg box delivery. So I have a very full pantry and extra food storage in another room. I also have chickens in the backyard so there are always fresh eggs. I’m getting ready to sell this house though and would love to get an idea of how the other half lives so I can set my pantry up to look normal rather than stuffed lol.

@@moniquem783 Jist the molasses. I usually get it closer to December…. I don’t know why I guess the desserts tend to ask for it.

Gingerbread is one of my favorites! I've usually had it with a lemon hard sauce or with some pumpkin ice cream, either way it is delicious.
@Samantha-pn4zk3 жыл бұрын
What is a hard sauce?
@christineb81483 жыл бұрын
@@Samantha-pn4zk it's a butter-based sauce or topping and goes on bread pudding or gingerbread or fruit cake or other hot desserts like that. I think the "hard" part is from it usually having some alcohol in it like rum or brandy (brandy butter is another name/version) but I usually had it with lemon juice in it.

Nice recipe. Definitely makes the house smell like fall weather. Some orange zest and a little orange juice in the icing would be a nice flavor note to go along with the ginger bread. I’ve seen many gingerbread recipes which incorporate an orange glaze. I think the frosting/ icing you used was better than just pouring a glaze over. The problem with glaze is it makes the pieces sticky, more problematic to eat. Your icing removes that stickiness issue. Another great video upload.

Hi Cheryl....thank you so much for sharing this recipe for gingerbread cake. I've been looking for just such a recipe for what seems like forever. Every entry I've typed in so far has only yielded recipes for gingerbread COOKIES.....which are not what I wanted.
