This by far is my favorite lesson for abstract impressionistic flowers. So stunning. I checked the Academy to see if this turned into a lesson. I had to grit my teeth through the at least 9 interruptions of ads! It was worth it. The sad thing is I have to sit through the annoying ads to paint along again. Thanks Ginger and Jon. I cant wait to play with my flower colors! I will do the pansy basket in the Academy tutorials.

Because Acrylics are so versatile, I enjoy showing how painting with acrylics can translate into an oil painting technique and why they must be done differently. On our on line Academy for acrylic painting we have more in depth examples of how to go about doing this, which include long step by step tutorials, with a lot more explanations. Many of our videos run between 2-5 hours and come with personal art coaching for those paintings on needs extra help with or just wants an objective pair of eyes to take a look and comment. Jon and I appreciate your feedback on the show. Its nice to interact with an artist who has been doing this a while that we can still show a new tick or two to. Happy New Year, and thanks so much for taking the time to write.

I am 70 years old and have stumbled upon Ginger Cook on You Tube. So I am beginner and time is running out for me to ever actually develop as a real artist. However, something I have noticed as an extra perk of following Ginger Cook: I am a type A personality....always in a hurry and have never been able to slow down...even in old my age. But, after watching Ginger paint and listening to the tips and stories, I have noticed I am much more in the moment...taking time ...noticing and experiencing the 'now.' Thank You, Ginger Cook!

Hi Ginger and John, I started painting about 10 years ago in my mid 70's and you are now my best favorite artist. Love your teaching style, your choice of content to paint. I had the cataract surgery about 5 years ago and had near sighted lens put in one eye and far sighted in the other eye. What was great about that is that I didn't have to wear glasses and had near perfect vision for about 3 years but now I have to wear reader glasses for small print. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with all of use. AWESOME

Even though it might not be a painting I'd be interested in painting, I'm sure I can learn quite a bit just from listening how to and of course your wonderful stories about your life.

Have a fantastic trip!
@gingercooklive7 жыл бұрын
Good to know, as it was a bit disarming yesterday with the how eye thing. I wear reading glasses now. I was complaining that I had to be so close to the computer to see the screen. She said that I needed two different reading glasses. One for books and close up stuff and then one for the computer. my book one is 250 so she said it would be half that (125) to easily interact with the computer. Cool

I'm actually graduating from medical school this year, and they've always taught us to do the "hand waving" to check for peripheral vision (which you can't test for with the dot machine). I'm using my free time until residency begins to learn acrylic painting. Your tutorials have been very helpful, and I'm planning to do this painting next :) Thank you!

How interesting. I figured they had a machine for all that stuff. it still was very funny though.... Love the new lenses in my eyes, thought they sparkle now when the light catches them... a bit odd but I do see better

Ginger, I love your eye exam story. I had one eye surgery last spring and I have to wait for the other eye to get bad enough before I can have it done. I can't believe how much more light I could see after getting the new lens inserted in my eye. The blues were brighter, whites were brighter. We had lived in our current house for a few years and all that time I thought the living room walls were painted an ivory sand color--now I can see they are a mushroom gray color! It will be interesting to see if your painting changes after your surgery. FYI, when she was waving her fingers at you she was looking for spots where your peripheral vision wasn't working. I think that is a test for macular degeneration where people get blind spots in their eyes. I had another visit pre-surgery where they did all kinds of tests and one was a test with multiple red dots and the tech said it was to determine what kind of lens insert I would need--I didn't even know there were different kinds of lenses. Good luck with your surgery.
