I still haven’t finished Ginny and Georgia. TBH I think it’s too heavy on the sex scenes for people that are supposed to be in high school. Also, there’s just too much intense TV these days. That’s the beauty of Gilmore Girls…it’s cozy tv.

I’m glad someone stood up for Ginny. She’s 15, we were all little overly emotional a holes at 15 and she is dealing with earth shattering information, even if she were a full blown adult!

@@nat3166 I saw someone saying how she stole what symbolized to her mom her escaping her abuse and starting a new life and like yeah I get that those sunglasses were important but I think we’re really glossing over the possibility that she’s using stole in the like way families will use to mean, like, borrowing, or maybe borrowing without asking but with permission that’s been established. Like, I used to “steal” my mom’s clothes when we were abt the same size. Not to mention, Georgia never was shown as being, like, bothered (that I remember anyway but if it was I doubt I’d forget if I were significant), so I don’t think it’s really a big deal??

Also I’ve never understood how people make this 15 year old to be the problem when Georgia literally slaps Ginny in an episode in the first season. Like that’s literally abuse. I honestly stopped watching after that episode because it annoyed me so much how that was just completely glossed over

people empathize with georgia and not lorelei for a couple of reasons. 1. traumatic events were talked about, not shown. 2. the abuse was emotional and not physical 3. her parents are now trying to be in her life (even though Emily doesn’t change her ways) 4. it’s hard to empathize with rich people/characters. we see all the things we wish we had, stability, privilege etc. and think “man what’s she crying about?” at least that’s also how i see Veronica Lodge in riverdale

Thank you for making this! I watched the first season of “Ginny and Georgia” and was so annoyed by it being compared to GG! I saw Georgia as an anti-hero. I couldn’t possibly understand how one could compare Georgia to Lorelei! Season 2 did a really great job of humanizing Georgia and explaining her actions, but…oiy! It’s frustrating to watch her because she has gotten into the habit of taking the law into her own hands. Never would I imagine Lorelei suffocating another human being.

Georgia & Lorelai both had their daughters at a very young age and they both have that cool young mom vibe about them. Georgia is more tough & edgy than Lorelai, but there are parallels with their love lives. Georgia = Lorelai, Zion = Christopher, Paul = Max Medina, Joe = Luke

17:45 i feel like a large reason they empathize with Georgia is because of the times the shows were made. When gilmore girls was made teen moms (even as grown women)were severely looked down on. A great example would be the constant nagging about why she didn't marry Christopher. Not only from the Gilmores but also from when Strub and Francine say how she ruined Christopher's life even though he did that to himself. It wasn't like he was involved in Rory's life to the point where he didn't have the time or chance to do anything else, he was all over the place with the freedom to do whatever the heck he wanted to do. Completely disregarding the fact that Lorelai now runs an Inn (and later buys one) and has a degree, they didn't care, it was all about how Christoper didn't meet his 'potential'. The show was made at a time when it was heavily emphasized that it was the girl's fault and not the boy's. even though it takes 2 to tango. It was always about making the boy's life better while the girl was to remain a disgusting eyesore. and while we as normal people with proper brainss would see that that is utter bs, the entire tone of the show from these grandparents was basically yelling that in not only our faces but Lorelai's as well. (quite literally). It was all about how she ruined chris' life and how they should've gotten married and 'done the right thing'. Lorelai always seemed to be in the wrong and doing wrong things. even though they were right and her life turned out well with Rory, it wasn't the route society at the time deemed as 'right' on the other hand Georgia is from a time where, as much as teen moms are still looked down on, their success and hard work to make a life for them and their child is praised and empowered and people are more focused on what will be best for the mom and child, even if that means not forcing them into marriage. the blame culture around teen parents have shifted.

Thank you for this video and mentioning that you do not think that Ginny is an ungrateful brat. I, seriously, feel like people are so easy to judge a character but refuse to see the layers in that character. On top of having a limited perception to Georgia's past she is also just a teenager who has experienced things in her childhood, too. And navigating life as a young and still developing human-being isn't easy. Especially, if you have trauma. Her father and mother are separated etc. Yes, Georgia is a good mother in the way in which she tries to protect her children and would (literally) do anything for them. But from what I have seen, she also tends to overdo it sometimes. And I think that sets her apart from Lorelai (while yes, both are consequent), Lorelai appears to be more mature than Georgia. But then again, their past is vastly different. Georgia has endured on top of her teenage pregnancy, abuse. Back to Ginny: Yeah, I wish more people would take into consideration that she is probably also going through some things ... stress, friendship drama, trying to develop an okayish relationship with yourself etc. and of course that she cannot look into Georgia's brain to see what she has gone through.

I’ve had problems with self harm since I was a teenager, mostly due to childhood abuse and mental illness. I do find self harm scenes to be a bit triggering, especially if the wounds are shown. I didn’t get the urge from Ginny and Georgia though. They handled it very well, and I’m glad that they pointed out how serious of a problem it can be and that they showed her go to therapy for it.

My problem with Ginny that can honestly be brushed off as “she’s young so she’s not mature enough yet” is that she wants to be understood right like that’s a main driving plot point to the second season, but she never puts in effort to understand those around her. Like for example, Marcus is having a hard time and she automatically assumes it’s because of her. She’s just really self centered imo. I’m not saying she can’t grow out of it but it just bugged me that with a little communication a lot of the problems in her life could be resolved really easily.

I get were u r comming from. It could be that she is relfecting her mothers behavior here. Considering she is a teen that is actually a phase that people go through. At least if they grew up in a toxic houshold. Hopefully for most people it stays a PHASE. Thankyou for your input. I wasnt able to watch most of the show, because I just felt so uncomfortable, but watched some summerys on yt and I am so disturbed by how people glorify a parent who clearly did not do the parenting in a perfect way and how they blame the child for basically everything. (I know no parent is perfect, but some edits portray it that way in Georgias case) Yes Georgia has her reasons and I feel like the point of the show was to display how it affects both mother and child, when they r mentally not ready and when they have to go through difficult living situations.(Wich would be bit of an undeerrstatement) Sadly people who had a mom like Georgia can relate a lot with Ginny in the beginning. I agree that Ginny is not a good person herself, but Georgia is one of the reasons why. I really hope adult Ginny learns from her mistakes, but I do not plan on watching the whole show anytime soon.

Agreed, additionally you just don't get the humor ASP used in Gilmore Girls again. It's a once in a lifetime thing but I really hope there will be something similar to it someday. Ginny and Georgia is very underwhelming and falls flat on a lot. I think the only plotlines they do well are the anger ones. And gilmore girls just has so much more, better plotlines, better writing and imo it's a better show, very well created and it's just an actual world you live in while Ginny & Georgia is just singular plotlines around the main Georgia things and if your interest in Georgia doesn't exist - there's no other reason to watch it which imo Gilmore girls does better. While it was said in the video, I still think one can create good plotlines around the dark situations, they made it very one sided while there definitely was a possibility for something more which they just lacked on. You can watch gilmore girls with your dad, your brother aswell as you mom, your friends, grandparents. Everyone has something they can latch onto with good humour in-between. I think Ginny & Georgia could've been so much better with a few more well made jokes but there are barely any in all of the 2 seasons that properly hit.. So yea idk, Ginny and Georgia has some good parts about mental health, racism and all that but otherwise it's really just a very netflix show and I do not see the resemblance between the shows whatsoever I went on a rant, I'm sorry haha

I love how nuanced your opinions on these characters are. I've seen so many people talk about this show and they completely despise one character without giving them any understanding, then they think another character is incapable of doing anything wrong. I really agree with how it's difficult to tell who's side your on between Ginny and Georgia because they both have reasons to be acting the way they do. Georgia may be my favorite character but I'm so tired of people saying they hate Ginny because she has reasons to do the things she does. It isn't just that one of them is right and the other is wrong 100% of the time.

Hi there. Thank you for putting out such great, thought provoking content. As far as money being the key to happiness.... I think it's a prerequisite to happiness in a lot of ways. Not crazy money, but enough to be comfortable and not stressed. It brings options, which quite often brings happiness. True there are people with mental health issues, and I am one of those, and I know the struggle... but the struggle without options is a whole lot worse. It's so quippy and easy to say that "money doesn't buy/bring happiness," and my naive self thought as much when I was younger. But in terms of Lorelai, the wealth she was raised in as a child gave her maaany options. Even down to simple things such as dental or health care, if we really think about it. Or just her simple access to healthy food, good education, and connections to any number of other things (art, literature, concerts, fashion, etc). I don't agree that this is some slight against her (having had wealth and abandoning it or whatever) or that she HAD to be happy because of her family's wealth, but let's not pretend it didn't give her a leg up (and the ability to know herself, have experienced the world, etc). Or the opportunity for one. Personally I don't have anything against her character at all, aside from the super unhealthy eating habits (just jealousy on my part lol). That's my sleepy ramble on poverty and Lorelai, I guess.
@kierralovestv

I was responding to alot of the comments I get where people essentially argue that bc she had money she should have been able to tolerate abuse which is where I diagree. But yes, I also agree it gave her a leg up in some instances, her termite problem, rory’s tuition, etc and just the basic upper class privilege.
@jessicac.4927
@jessicac.4927 Жыл бұрын
@@kierralovestv That makes a lot of sense. I was so exhausted when I wrote that, and probably shouldn't have lol. Thank you for responding with grace, as always. But yeah, no one should put up with abuse no matter what. However, I do think having rich parents was always in her back pocket. Like if something terrible had happened, she could have turned to them. She was just lucky that nothing did until she needed to pay for Rory's tuition. Not that that was "terrible," but you get what I'm saying. I just hate how that phrase has been hardwired into our brains. It feels like some great lie we all agreed to swallow. Money does buy happiness, or rather, it erases hardships that allow you to find happiness more easily than if you were dirt poor. Mental illness is a seperate struggle and ignores wealth. Anyway, thank you for being so lovely.

So I love Gilmore girls and I love how you've linked it to this new show I liked a little but definitely like a lot more now that I see the parallels. I do have to say tho that the reason I empathize with Georgia more than lorelai is because lorelai had not only her parents to fall back on but seemingly her whole town for the entirety of Rory's life. Georgia had Zanes parents in theory but they wanted to take custody and other than those two she was really on her own. So when she makes these crazy rash decisions it's because she has always been backed into a corner and had to do whatever to get out. Lorelai on the other hand just has communication and maturity issues when dealing with her problems and it's harder to root for her.
