What I haven’t heard a lot of analysts say when they talk about Haji Wright scoring is that Ballagan didn’t get to play with Gio Reyna. Both of haji’s goals came from good passes from Reyna. In the first half of the final Gio was practically playing a fullback and haji didn’t score. I’m not throwing any hate or shade, but there’s also a difference in the defenders energy level during the first 45 minutes versus extra time minutes . I am personally glad that we have a healthy competition between Sergeant, Balogun, Pepi, and Wright. They all have different strengths and we can use that against whatever team we’re playing

Berhalter's system cannot work without a Gio Reyna unlocking the final third. You gotta have the killer ball splitting the CBs and that's why Balogun is struggling because Gio is not on when Balogun is

It is in the best interest of Gio's career to be more effective in all parts of the pitch. With Musah on the bench, we needed help making sure the ball could progress from the middle of the pitch, and he did that, and it was a big reason why Mexico could not get any grasp on this game He doesn't have the luxury of being a "Lazy 10," and almost no one in the modern game has that luxury. That's a one-way ticket to being a super sub for the rest of your career

With Balogun it's like I said when he committed to the US (I'm an Arsenal fan, ive seen him in the youth team) he's still only young, he needs to develop, the potential is there but he's not the finished article yet, I know he was in our U21's but you have to bear in mind being an U21 for England doesn't always mean a great deal, he was nowhere near the senior squad, he was a decent prospect that was all

@dominickgibbs6503 I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a look, I'm just saying he's still just a prospect and needs more development, he found a team in Reims that played on the counter and played to his strengths, also the opposition would open up more because (respectfully) who the hell are Reims? At Monaco they have more possession and the opposition will be more cautious, Mbappe had to play against a similar style at PSG (teams just sit back in a low block and only attack through counters) Balogun still needs learn how to play through a low block more efficiently, the US has mostly opposition that'll do the same in CONCACAF, just give Balogun some time and see if he develops the ability to play against a low block, if he does he'll reach his potential and it'll massively benefit the USMNT massively

Haji scoring against a depleted Jamaica team doesn't impress me all that much. A couple years ago people were hyping Jesus Ferrera because he was scoring against Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean CONCACAF minnows, but he showed he wasn't up to it against better talent. To me Balogun and Pepi are still a distant 1 and 2. Of coarse Gregg is a moron so who knows.

The question was asked, how do you explain why Gio Reyna is getting less time now with Nottingham than with the USMNT than last time (with the USMNT) when he was with Dortmund, because he is an "absolute baller"? Well, the answer is that playing in CONCACAF, even against Mexico, is not the same as playing the EPL or Bundesliga against the level there. Nico knows this. Also, the USMNT, no offense is not the same level of talent as most teams in the EPL or Bundesliga. It is not apples to apples. Perhaps Gio should get more playing time with Nottingham, but when he made the switch from Dortmund, his agent should have received assurances that he would have a definitive amount of playing time and not be riding the bench. Gio's problems are that he has had injury issues (which makes teams hesitant), and the drama surrounding the US team last year. Americans in general have a bit of stigma on them in Europe, fair or not. I believe that it is unfair, but there is a bit of disrespect from European teams and fans. I also think that Americans that play there do not have full confidence in themselves and do not perform at the level of their full talent. Don't know why, but I feel they have a bit of an inferiority complex. I believe that Pulisic is finally showing a higher level at AC Milan. I think part of that is due to Giroud. I think Giroud has taken him under his wing and shown he believes in Pulisic and that he deserves to start there. The performance he has shown at AC Milan is in line with what he is capable of. He certainly has been playing better than the overrated and overhyped Rafael Leao. Until there is a high-level American football superstar in Europe, this mentality will exist against American players in Europe.
