Saw this film at a midnight screening in wardour St London way back in 1978 when i was just 19, came out of the theatre that night a bit more grown up than i went in, the ending of the film and the music of Giorgio Moroder stays with me to this day, forget all the controversy surrounding the Turkish misrepresentation, Brad Davis apologised for his ignorange many years ago, sadly he died in 1995 but leaves a great performance for us to respect, as relevant a film now as it was in 1978..........

You might be surprised. They say that all publicity is good publicity. I remember how popular this movie was, it brought a lot of tourists, many actually visited Turkey BECAUSE of it! I remember visiting certain places relevant to the movie, cafes etc. although I went b/c of it's incredible history & beauty, the story was intriguing. BTW, Turkey is my all time favourite destination, the most beautiful & fascinating country I have ever been to. My only regret is I didn't have more time there.

I read this too from a tribute video this morning. So sad: "When his AIDS progressed , Brad decided to end his life. His wife and a friend assisted him and the part of the book in which he cries, "OH God! it hurts! it hurts!" as he dies due to a drug overdose is very sad,pathetic and haunting. Such a sad end for a man of such great talent, good looks,charisma. Truly one of a kind,"

Oh, and I forgot to say, the Turkish people were hands down, the nicest and friendliest of any place I have ever been to. They were good, honest people. Once, one of my friends, accidentally overpaid a bus driver. After we got off, the bus started to drive off then stopped, reversed and the driver got out and handed my friend his money. We all looked at each other perplexed and then we realized! I'll never forget it. Ppl there were very kind & generous too.

It is a part of human nature to desire the happiness of others ... and to loathe their suffering. This is why so many people get frozen in time or even petrified as the last few events of this saga unfold before their eyes. Some with racing hearts, some with bated breath, we hope with all of our might for that outcome that we would want for our own selves. When finally there's no more fear, when the last obstacle is removed, it is no wonder that some of us jump and shout for joy, some also weep. The joy is just too great to contain!

This film, while not to be shown to children, the elderly, or adults with great purity & innocence of mind, has both two of the best cinematographic performances ever (Brad Davis & John Hurt) and THE most stunning movie ending of all time.
@eddieingalls5345 жыл бұрын
Agree - I can remember how many of us would be about to take our seat a little late as was normal and then realise by the end of the film we had not moved from being about to sit down, such was the incredible intensity, atmosphere and acting within this film. How Brad Davis could act with such mind blowing depth I still cannot work out.
@fredblahblah.63525 жыл бұрын
@@eddieingalls534 Yes, it is a wonder ... Brad Davis' rendition is over-powering, almost hypnotizing ... and i think it leaves a lasting mark in all of us. You can watch two magnificent performances by John Hurt in 'A Man for All Seasons' as well as in a BBC 1970's TV series called 'I Claudius' where he plays Caligula.
