GIOS vintage road bike restoration

Today's build is absolutely exceptional for me because I have NEVER had a Gios Torino and I have NEVER had a Campagnolo C record! Yes, I also don't understand how I could have lived to such an old age without it?!! I bought the Gios frame in poor condition in Germany.
I think that the fork belongs to another Gios model, but it is beautifully light and in excellent condition so I will keep it. This particular blue color is an integral part of Gios. The color was recreated by our master of paint Karel Chmelíř ... thanks Karel! The frame is beautifully crafted and unexpectedly light… 1920g frame without a fork in the size 62cm! I have had some of the C Record components in the display for more than 20 years and some I have only recently acquired. For the first time I tried the positioning system Campagnolo Syncro 2, including all its imperfections…

Dnešní stavba je pro mě naprosto výjimečná, jelikož jsem NIKDY neměl Gios Torino ani Campagnolo C Record! Ano, také nechápu, jak jsem se bez toho mohl dožít tak vysokého věku?!! Rám Gios ve špatném stavu jsem koupil v Německu. Mám za to, že vidlice patří k jinému modelu, ale je Gios, je krásná lehká a ve výborném stavu…nechám ji u rámu. Zvláštně obyčejně krásná modrá barva patří neodmyslitelně ke Giosu. Samozřejmě ji podle původní dělal mistr laku Karel Chmelíř...díky Karle! Rám je krásně zpracovaný a nečekaně lehký…1920g rám bez vidlice ve dvaašedesátce velikosti! Některé C Record komponenty jsem měl více než 20 let ve vitríně a některé jsem sehnal teprve nedávno. Poprvé jsem vyzkoušel polohovací systém Campagnolo syncro 2 se všemi jeho nedokonalostmi…

Beautiful bike. I worked at a bike shop right after high school. Was working on a bike with bright red Phil Wood grease. Went to wipe a glob of it off some Campy engraved part and was pleased to see how awesome it looked. Thought about it for a while. Wondered what I could use that would be a bit more permanent... I've been rubbing and filling engraved parts with Crayolas ever since. Better than when they fill with grease. Just a suggestion...Find the complimenting Cobolto blue crayon in the box. Gently warm. Wax on, wax off...Boom!

25.55 - Great Vid - enjoyed it - one thing thou - having raced in my youth I remember that we use to wind the tape 'back' towards the rider because if you did it the other way (as in the vid) your hands tended to 'unwind it', so to speak, especially when climbing 'on the tops' - the fully advisive coated 'cloth' tapes were not so bad, but the ones with the thinner track of glue in the middle of the tape were a bit of a problem...

Super video and what a beautiful bike. As a man of 57 to me this is a bike. Italian frame , Campagnolo and Cinnelli that’s what makes a proper bike. Modern bikes no doubt do everything better but they generally are as ugly as sin and don’t get me started on disk brakes !Anyway that’s my old man rant over, looking forward to your Colnago video. Just recently bought an old Colnago Master and it’s a dream to ride.

Gents that is how you restore an Italian classic, together with Campag full tool kit and C Record. Pedals are integral part of classic Campag but vintage Look instead so ok. Just beautiful hearing the tools in use. But no Campag free wheel ? Please swop when possible. Cables wee too long when finishing off. A true relaxing joy too watch. 9/10 😊🇲🇽👍

I own a 81' Super Record in a much smaller size than this frame. Not sure of the year of this frame, but Super Record would have been appropriate instead of C Record if this was an early 80's frameset. That is how mine is built. Very nice restoration and finish though.

Beautiful built. Curious if you got the Syncro index shifting to work 'decent'? I'm guessing downshifting requires pulling the DT shifter past the index notch to shift under load? Reason being 3 fold: RD not slant parallelogram, freewheel not twist tooth or hyperglide, and cable pull shorter than Shimano.

Thank you very much for the support, of course the Syncro went down after the first ride. It doesn't work even though I tried many, freewheels, chains and colored lever inserts. I have friction there. The only place where it quite works for me is Chorus 1.gen

Bought C RECORD parts (1st and second edition mix )one piece at a time over the years and built a beautiful "old school " bike on a silver Alan record frame :Campy freewheel,down tube shifters,low flange hubs with 2000 era titanium skewers,silver Campy pro fit pedals (clipless),black Regal saddle (copper rivets),Cinelli 1r stem and bars with cork tape,ditched the cobalto 'rhinestone' brakes and installed 1st edition chorus monoplanars for Mavic silver open pro tubular rims.Headset races were Brinelled - added extra bearings without retainer ... no more indexed steering ! What's with Vittoria's (new for me)corsa evo tubulars -air leaks at valve base.This never happened with Vittoria's old pro team tires. Still doing track stands for red lights at the age of 75.Today's bikes are so ugly they should be outlawed!
