Nice job and as an old mechanic who has assembled hundreds of bikes here are some comments: 1) I like how those wheels magically got rebuilt after cutting out the spokes, rebuilding them is beyond most people skills. 2) Your front derailleur is mounted to high and will shift better if lowered. 3) Make sure your bottom spindle tapers are clean before attaching crank (no grease or oil). 4) Grease your chain ring bolts to prevent creaking. 5) Your stem should stick out some do not pound on it or set it so low. 6) Your front Quick Release should be on the same side as the rear one. 7) You need to drip oil or inject grease into the cassette body after you cleaned it. 8) You should grease all the cable wires before running them through the casings. 9) You need to toe in the brake blocks to prevent squealing when braking. 10) You should grease the seat post and stem before insertion. 11) Your tape seemed short as I would have wrapped it tighter with more overlap and it should have reached farther so that you only needed one wrap of electrical tape at the end. Just suggestions from an old mechanic............

Good pointers. I got a question though. Point 8, wouldn't get dust and stuff to stick better to the wires?
@jaycahow4667
@jaycahow4667 2 ай бұрын
@@andreasbergwall9437 The grease is to lubricate the cable so it slides better. You should have cable housing caps on the end of the cable housing to keep stuff from getting in the housing.

@@jaycahow4667 Yes i understand the concept. It might also prevent rust. However, you'll get some parts of the wire that'll be exposed when you shift and you might drag dust and stuff in and out of the housing.

It is not restored it is rebuilt. This bike has the weirdest random selection of parts I have seen in a long time. Why does it have a rear hub on the front wheel? Campagnolo never built bike frames only components. The bicycle builder or brand name is to be the decals on the down tube.

I learned the hard way: don’t cut gear cables, detach. Some old downtube shifters, simplex for sure, have very small holes for the lead heads and new cable heads might need to be ground/ filed down to seat into the holes. Nowadays I don’t throw out or waste any old parts, cables included. Great video, thanks.
@fb55255
@fb55255 9 ай бұрын
cables are disposable parts and should be replaced even on newer bikes. the cables tend to stretch and some strands brake inside the guides which makes riding dangerous in the case of brake cables.

In the era where you had five and six gear freewheels, it was not only possible but common to have a mishmash. My first road bike had a Galli crank, a Nuovo Record front, a Suntour Cyclone rear, and Campy braze-on shift levers. Friction shifting made this sort of thing pretty trivial. These days, I worry about not having wear parts for the Campy 10 groups on my two custom road bikes.

Hell...... that wasn't original!!!!!!!!!!! That was a punch of different parts on an old frame!!!!!!!! Suntour rear derailleur, Shimano 600 friction shifters, etc.... That was a rag bike with a bunch of decent quality parts!!! I have Shimano 600 brake calipers on my 1991 Eddy Merckx SLX with Campy Chorus derailleurs, BB, Headset, etc. DON'T GET ME WRONG...cool rebuild but crap paint job... ya used rattle can paint instead of a catalyzed paint with a hardener and then a clear coat . I like how you went with Cross 3 spoke lacing instead of the radial lacing.. I've never seen a freewheel hub used up front!!!!!!! I have a "RAG" bike like that and it has a Shimano 105 derailleur that's about 30 years old... it works fine!!! The whole "Rag" bike is built on a 1988 Centurian frame with Shimano 105 cranks, Campy Victory front derailleur... etc. It's a bunch of thrown together old parts and ya know what?... I ride that bike more than my Cervelo Campy record/chorus bike. Thanks for video!!!!!

Very nice restoration and video! As an oldtimer, can I just make a couple of comments? Most bikes of that era would have used a woven cotton tape (wouldn’t want to go back to that!), and the convention for positioning quick release skewers is that the levers should be on the left-hand side. I realise there will be all sorts of opinions on this, so no criticism intended.

It's enlightening to see bike culture in Manila. Reminds me of the late '70s in the US. The sport hadn't hit the US yet, but a bike boom followed the OPEC oil crisis, cars lined up outside gas stations, and aging Boomers, banging up their knees running for fitness, found cycling a very attractive alternative on many levels. Do you know how old that bike is and where it came from? The internal cables on the top tube were quite avant guard back in the eighties, and the brakes and cranks look older. Did the Campagnolo head badge come from the company or the builder paying his tribute to the brand? A very sophisticated interpretation of the finest Italian racing bikes of the era. Timeless! First class bringing it back to life!

Labour of love indeed. Odd that it had an english BB thread? The paint stripping phase is the worst and the painting spraying the most satisfying! I've done several trash to flash bikes, nice to give them a new lease of life. I do sell them on but hardly ever break even!!!

You should have kept the straight lacing on the non drive side of the rear wheel. Also, kenda tires are big no-no Also, you shouldn't bang the stem in, that will scratch it and the bars will be too low.

@@kenkovar2647 nope, cheap kenda just sucks. Very heavy, very hard and there's no grip. More expensive tires, like Continental Ultra Sport, are much better value. Kenda have a new performance line, but I have no experience with them yet.

I was a good build. You can still improve your restorations by polishing the hardware like new. I'm looking forward to more restorations from your channel. 👍

There is no brand of bike campagnolo, that is an Italian company that makes bike components. The real frame builder was on the head badge

Usually this is correct. Super rarely they have made frames for expos and demos, but this is likely not the case here.

I have too many comments, I'll just mention a few. A. The builder clearly has experience with this. Either he is self taught or worked as a bike mechanic at some point. 1. I don't think Campagnolo ever made bike frames. (Correct me if I am wrong here.) The closest thing would be the dropouts for for front and rear axles. I still own and occasionally ride a hand made 1983 Bianchi I got new from Italy. It has the Campy dropouts, but the rest is all Bianchi, (lugs made by Cinelli I believe) and Columbus tubing. I wish I could have completed the build with a full Campy group set, but I could barely afford the frame as it was at the time. That's kind of what I see in this bike also. In fact, most of the parts on this bike are NOT Campy. Someday I'll complete my build properly. But the vintage Campy parts keep getting more expensive though. 2. That appears to be a (Regina?) true 5 speed cluster, which would have been more likely for an older bike, but this one has internal rear brake cable routing and braze-on shift lever bosses. I think seven speed would have been the norm of the day then. 3. Do my eyes deceive me? You fit a rear hub into the front fork??? What are the external threads for? 4. So many other odd clues as to the vintage, such as the Zefal cloth rim tape, 36 spoke hubs, no braze on front derailleur mount, the Dia-compe stem and SR bars, and the early aero rims. Hard to put an exact date on this bike. 5. And yet the video was a joy to watch. Thanks Coggie Bike.
