Actually NASA was not ever really segregated. Although technically the toilet facilities were meant to be segregated, it wasn’t enforced. Katherine Johnson said she used the ‘whites only’ toilets for years not knowing it was segregated, and no one complained or told her otherwise. This movie taught me a piece of history I never knew, even though I watched the launch and recovery. These women reminded me we don’t need to settle for less than our dreams. At that time computers weren’t as reliable as they are now because they relied on human input far more than they do now. The odd thing is that computers would make mistakes that the humans wouldn’t because the humans would make mistakes inputting data. Fun fact: this is not the first time that Octavia Spencer and Kirsten Dunst worked on the same movie. They were both in Spider-Man (2002). Kirsten played Mary Jane Watson and Octavia had a small role as a worker at the wrestling match. She was on screen for only a few seconds, but she put a lot of sass into the role to make it memorably funny. I’m glad to see both actresses thriving in the business. 😊

I love that movie. As a white woman I hate seeing the prejudices that were the norm back then. How do we take the fear out of people that just because the color of the skin is different they still bleed red
