Very true! Kids are very matter of fact about differences in skin tone. It's like "I have blue shoes and you have red shoes. I have black hair and you have red hair.". None of that is important when making friends.

One of my favorite memories is taking my kids and day care kids to the zoo. It was a very hot day and the fountains were on. There were kids from all ethnic and social backgrounds playing in the water, hugging each other, and making new friends. The Korean preschool teacher standing next to me said "Wouldn't it be wonderful if the whole world was like that?". Amen!

The message that parents from Sandy Hook and the many many others and families say, praying and the whole bit, doesn't stop the mess we are in. As a tutor who works with kindergarten and elementary school children, I’ve been able to see this innocence in several of the children I’ve worked with. I’ve also been blessed enough to witness several of these children as they entered their teen years and high school. From my experience, I’ve found that the children who retained their innocence the longest and who weren’t forced to “grow up” too soon ended up becoming some of the brightest, kindest, and empathetic teens I’ve known.

My mom was in her mid 80's and in a wheelchair and her garbage guys would wheel her trashcan to the side of the house for her every Friday.. It took them a few seconds but was one of the nicest gifts she ever received! We made sure they got a nice Christmas bonus! Something that takes a few seconds can mean so very much!

I always appreciated collectors but my little Shepard Rottweiler was not as loving as the little girl because he hate men stealing his belongings. I moved to a golf course community and rarely leave trash because they are so rough on my trash bin I'm always repairing it I trying to be nice by giving them bill taped to the receptor for the holidays but they are still rough and sometimes forget to empty it. Believe it or not it's hard to get a job like that. Some bring in over $90K a year with retirement benefits, twice what I do.

As someone who does lawn care I will say there isn't a lot of kind people left but when someone goes out of their way. To show appreciation or just give a kind word its very awesome. And makes a huge difference in a person's day maybe even makes their month. You wouldn't think letting a kid check out your trash truck or lawnmower would make a difference but watching a face light up just getting to check out a machine is a great feeling. Parents keep teaching your kids to be kind the world needs more of that. My daughter loves watching the garbage trucks she really likes it when they wave back. And ladies and gentlemen that do these kind of jobs y'all to keep being kind you never know when that little kid is watching make their day it will make yours too.

My dad did this type of work so I could go get an education, feel safe, have a home to sleep in, have food to eat and clothes to wear. I realize a man’s hard work should never go unnoticed and especially thinking about when he is doing something that alleviates others from having to do it. Plus when they benefit from it. That’s nice a small child can see the value of his life at such a young age. It makes me think about learning to see the value of each other, be thankful and guard against issues of competition or comparison.

I was an Administrative Assistant with a 2-year Associates degree. My Boss thought she was special because she had a Masters and a Bachelors degree & she'd often brag about it, but I knew it was intentional to get on my case. I regret before leaving not asking her... did all your degrees make you a better person? I THINK NOT! She badmouthed some of her other employees behind their back (so I have no doubt she did the same about me) she acted as if she was high & mighty and even took credit for something I did. Yeah, all the degrees she had did NOT make her a better person, nor smarter, just more informative in what they studied. I'm just saying this because I'm sure you get that attitude, but it's not just housekeepers. Some people just have that high and mighty attitude toward anyone below them... be it income, status, education, or whatever.

I'm a retired, registered nurse of 33 years. I want to apologize to you for the times you were treated badly. All people who work in the hospital are important. It takes each one of us working as a team in order to take good care of our patients. Please don't think it was because of your job title that you were treated badly. Even as a registered nurse there were many times I was treated badly by physicians and fellow employees. Some people are not nice people, ever. Other times people have problems going on at home and bring that to work with them or just having a bad day. Regardless of the reasons, it's not acceptable to treat each other badly; we all need to treat each other better and with respect.
