Kirk confuses 'consequences' with 'punishment'. In society, cosequences are unavoidable. If someone steals from a poor mother, the consequence is that she will not be able to feed her children. THOSE are the consequences we should internalize and be worried about, not some eternal punishment from an in visible magic man in the sky. Which really doesn't seem to matter to most people. I don't think ANYONE really believes or understands their religion. If you really believed that there is some being watching you constantly, you would never do anything wrong (by choice). But, Christianity is the opposite of a virtual nanny. Christianity says, 'We are all imperfect, we all sin, ask GOD for forgiveness, you will STILL get in to Heaven. That is antithetical to everything Kirk is claiming.
