You need a multimeter. And a man. You shouldn't be guessing about resistance of your wire legs and crimp connections... And plugs into instruments. You need an extension leg of wire......and a good multimeter. Would a man be useful if he is 6'2" , 235 pounds and speaks every language in north and south America? Also master scuba instructor with thousands of hours underwater? And still not quite forty years old.

Hi Lauren. Don't know if you'll see this post. I'm the guy trying to beat cancer...trying. I barely have the strength to drive, much less sail...so I love your videos. Today I spent 60 minutes getting treatments and I watched this video. I was smiling so much that my doctors asked what I was watching. I told them it is the miracle lady and that watching you is the best treatment I could receive. Both of them smiled and said I should keep watching your videos. So, you might say that it's doctor's orders! 😂 Thanks for bringing a bright moment to a life that's fighting to survive.

Long ago camping I learned whether or not you have fuel you can still make stuff hot. To make coffee or eggs or rice and pork chops all you need is a lil percolating coffee pot. Use an inch of water on diced carrots, add garlic&onions, jalapeno&more, Perhaps pasta&tomatoes or whatever you happen to have in store. It cooks faster in a cooler, let it cook for 3 hours, add more water, some soy or even scramble/poach eggs, cheese&ham. You'll soon learn even with no fuel you can stop eating cold chile straight out of the can. Best part of all, clean up is easy, or store your 2nds for the next day. A pot of pasta can last for days, and you never worry about spilling it while on your merry rolly way.

We love seeing your smile because we know you are happy. About the only way to describe blue water sailing is to listen to 2 songs: Chrispher Cross "Sailing"; and Enya "Caribbean Blue." Your movements raising the dink & anchor, walking about, line handling, how your lines get coiled & stowed, just everything speaks to the great teachers and how passionately you had to have listened, watched, and are now doing. I love your boat, wardrobe, attitude, thinking, and lest we forget the very brave kitty "Mako"! I love seeing you out there hundreds of miles from land rail-in the-water calm.. beaming back your beautiful radiant smile--> for the whole world--> to treasure! I started following you about a month ago and you are amazing! I have lived an extremely good life of adventure. I've canoed from Pennsylvania to New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico. I've hiked the entire Appalachian Trail twice. I've hiked 1000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. I have over 27,000 miles of canoeing under my belt and have been in the Arctic Circle canoeing twice. I have raced motorcycles professionally and raced canoes in the National Championships. I have completed a 1000 mile bicycle trip. I have lived on an island off shore of Florida for 5 years. I was a Paramedic for 45 years and a white water raft guide for 35 years as my part time job. I have a degree in Photography and Photojournalism and yet at 70 years old my life seems so safe and vanilla compared to what you are doing! I love your videos, thank you for taking us along. Good luck with your trips, and your sailing. Stay safe and happy and I can't wait for your next video. BTW, the first time that I hiked the A.T. my Manx cat rode on top of my backpack and to date is the only cat to do the entire trail. His name was Ziggy and he looked a lot like your cat Mako but with just a 2" tail. Respect young lady, much respect! You are one Badass woman!

"Be fearless in the pursuit of whatever sets your soul on fire." I saw that on FB and never forgot...and I think all of us, no matter how unrealistic the dream, should at least give them a fair chase. If we have to, tell no one lest they discourage us. I'm over 50 now and even though I haven't done it yet, would rather die broke and homeless but knowing that I chased my dreams even if nothing came of it- rather than too old to change things but secure, wondering "what might have been."

We had nav lights on the bow, and kept them after putting new ones atop the mast. First, so there was always a legal hot spare. Second, because the bow lights get better attention in anchorages. Cheap enough to get a set of portable dinghy nav lights, to use as a bow spare.

Hi Lauren - I am so happy to have subscribed to your channel. Listening to you and watching you meet and overcome every challenge is inspiring to everyone who watches you live your life. I am sure it hasn't gone unnoticed by you from the comments posted, that you never know how your life can impact others in the most positive way. I'll bet that there are folks who build their solutions and life changes on what they see you do. As the Zen master said, "When the student is ready , the teacher appears." It is inspiring. I hope you have a wonderful and fulfilling Christmas and if "the lonelies" interrupt your self-talk remember that you are touching lives, giving hope, and pointing the way, and what better time of year to remind yourself of that than Christmas. God bless you.

Hi Lauren, you are taking the electrical issues with your boat way too lightly. You have loose wires that produce sparks every time they connect and disconnect and a flammable gas leak. That is a recipe for disaster. You need to go over your entire electrical system, and make sure everything is secure. Twisted and taped connections are not acceptable. Also another simple thing you can do is get yourself some standard cheap household smoke detectors and put one in each separate area of your boat. I watched a video a few months ago where a professional Sailor's boat went up in flames within 10 minutes them noticing smoke. They went on about if they had noticed that sooner they might have been able to do something. There was not one mention of a smoke detector. Do yourself a favour and get some on your boat as soon as possible, and fix that wiring properly! You seem like a beautiful person on a beautiful adventure and I'd hate to see it and in some kind of disaster or you. I'm looking to be on a similar adventure soon. Hopefully one day our paths will cross. Good luck in everything!

You could film the ocean, looking forward along the boat, its quite mesmerizing .... just say "i'm going to make a meal, here is something to watch". the motion of a powerful yacht through the water is hypnotic. maybe 5 to 10 minutes. SV Delos have done it for an hour. no talking on deck just the boat and ocean noise. and for yourself you could try a few GoPro's and film yourself taking or Gybing the boat. Maybe a full meal prep by Lauren. I am currently refitting my yacht, see you out there soon Metaphorically speaking. Take care always.

Your opening words moved me a lot and made me remember how freeing and wonderful it was when years ago i first started regular solo off trail hiking for a few miles in at a time. More dangerous and rugged than following anothers made or maintained trail.. trying different valleys to even the same summit (people mountains under 600 vertical feet).. having to leave a map at home with car park location.. trek plan with landmarks from geodedic topography maps which i also took with me.. and tried not to stray from incase i got into trouble and someone could find me.. And youll laugh.. but this was all in surprisingly though few and not very large wilderness areas of Northern/Western New Jersey. 500 miles on a hundred hikes over a few years .. i even made a map and gave Anerican Natives names Leni Lenape or Delaware "Indians" once of the area to places that few explored off trail.. Solo alone in Nature is solo akone and i share your love of it.. I must admit your maybe 700 mile soko passage sounds AMAZING and EXCITING as well as DAUNTING!!😮

Thanks for the video! Hey consider tiding up the cockpit during passages. All those lines on the floor can present a danger to you in case you need to move quickly. Being solo makes all worse. Stay safe and enjoying the adventures!

Well done Lauren, epic sailing . Reset your auto pilot to be more lose. Let it run more free and or use wind mode .. I think the wind mode you already use but end way. If the auto pilot is set to be most accurate it has a hard time and may get confused. Also a wind vane can confuse the readings as if there is an antenna or similar disturbing the wind flow.

I watched this video before, however, I watched one when you’re talking about slowing down. I think that would be a great idea. Slow down give yourself time for yourself, you got your whole life ahead of yourself ,stay safe just want to say I love every one of your videos. Thank you for sharing.

You're living my dream right now. I just got done with the military and I'm working and saving up for a boat of my own. Hopefully in about a years time, give or take I can start looking for a boat. Been thinking of nothing else the past few years.

Big kudos to you! Being alone on the water far from land is no trivial thing. I’ve been off and on the water in my 60+ years but never far off, as I’m limited to how much gas my small boat can take on. I’m debating on trading it in on a cat, but… lots of things going on in my life right now. I wouldn’t mind being a few hundred miles from anything though. How peaceful! Smoothing sailing to you!

Hey Lauren,👍 I'm so friggin impressed!!! It's mind-blowing how BRAVE you are out there sailing alone. Being a bit older (obviously a bit jaded), I do worry for you. I'm sure your family and friends "got your back" - being in tight communicationa and having emergency "plans" through close tracking coordinates😖👍 I started watching your channel & La Vagabond Riley & Elana during pandemic lockdown(s). I try to watch your videos when I get extra time 👍😊. I'm seriously impressed Lauren. Few Men or Women ever attempt sailing out on the Big Vast Ocean "🌊 alone........YOU OWNED THOSE 500 MILES LIKE A LEGEND👍👍👍👍👍

Hi Lauren: If you ever run outta propane you just may be able to warm up meals on your engine or exhaust area grilled cheese wrapped in aluminum foil or suntin 😊Im a big noob maybe too dangerous but might work. I’m In the process of selling my camp and whatever I have to sail Greece for a year or more. Been binge watching everyone’s videos so much info and so many amazing stories. Thank you for sharing yours. Be safe out there
