@@Colby_Purrins801 Evil Dead 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time, not just because of Ash, but because of how perfect the mix of horror/comedy is. It's insanely fun and creative as hell. Army of Darkness leaned too much into comedy for me, and 2013 too much into horror (I still like both though). I liked Rise better than both of those, since I though it was more fun than 2013, while still being a horror movie.

In an interview she said shooting this was absolute hell, and you can tell through her performance. She worked with Alvarez again with Don't Breathe, which was also excellent, as was she, but that was another rough shoot. Because of this she's taking an indefinite break from horror films and focusing on different projects in other genres. Cabin in the Woods is a satirical parody of the entire horror genre, it's literally inspired by the Evil Dead series. As a satirical take, it has to be clever or the satire fails. This movie wasn't trying to be clever, it wasn't satirizing or parodying anything, it's just a pure horror film utilizing tropes seriously, with subtext messages about this or that.

Do not underestimate the original Evil Dead movies. Their is a real attraction to the low budget vibe, which forced the filmmakers to get creative with their film style and horror choices. Decades later, you can watch a Sam Raimi film (like Spiderman, or Quick and the Dead), and see inspiration from that first Evil Dead movie. Plus, it sets up the Ash vs Evil Dead TV show well, which is 100% underrated, and the perfect blend of horror/comedy. And as many have said, as good as Jane Levy is as Mia, she is no Bruce Campbell. HAIL TO THE KING, BABY!

So this remake is actually really cool because it’s almost like an Alternate Universe because the story is almost identical to the original- Except it was just friends going to a cabin for fun not a detox. AND it’s actually said by the creators that it does in fact take place within the same universe so it’s technically a reboot not a remake. But the twist is that Mia actually becomes unpossessed and is the Final girl instead of Ash Williams who is THE FACE of the Evil Dead franchise(he’s in all but these 2 remakes, although the actor Bruce Campbell is a producer) What’s cool is that Ash has a chainsaw as a hand after he has to cut it off to avoid infection. So Mia is like Ash at the end of the movie.

This was honestly one of the best reboots (100% a story in the same universe) to a classic horror series and definitely stands the test of time, as that. Manages to keep a very similar vibe to the original, while still going off in its own new direction while still respecting the original trilogy and the lore it laid out, much like Evil Dead Rise is as well. As for deaths and the trauma congo line everyone went through: there's a few very, _very_ distinct similarities (you'll know when you see it) but surprisingly, not as many similarities between the deaths. That said it's no less a nightmare train for the five. Also in full support of watching Cabin in the Woods. I can't imagine you wouldn't enjoy it, it's a smart and incredibly enjoyable take on the horror premise that will probably never be duplicated.

The fun part about these movies is how they only take the skeleton of the original and build a completely different being out of that. And it works so well compared to a shot for shot remake.

There are some classics that you might consider watching, but the original Evil Dead is not one of them. For the rest I agree.

Watch Don't Breathe if you haven't yet, same director, same actress, nerve shredding intense the first time, one of the few films to genuinely raise my adrenaline to the point i was, well, breathless by the end. Nothing will ever hold up to that first preview viewing. Also, there's less gore, but it has it's own nasty surprises.

I am late here, but I don't think I noticed anyone mention this; the movie is actually a sequel (per the director). The similarities to the original cannot be denied, so it's considered more of a requel. Just my opinion, given the lore when you include the comics as well, the comics state that there are multiverses all with different versions of the Necronomicon (the book of the dead). I believe that this film is supposed to be in a different universe as the original trilogy. I also believe that the most recent one (Evil Dead Rise) is also in a different universe than this one and the original trilogy. The Necronomicon is different between the trilogy, this one, and the most recent. Personally, I believe the original trilogy are also all separate, but that would be a deeper discussion. Sorry for the rant, but I adore this franchise so much. So glad you enjoyed it!

There is no dismemberment; it actually got five souls, which are Olivia, Natalie, Eric, David, and yes, Grandpa the Dog, but they failed to take Mia's soul.

The dog was killed by Mia, it wasn't possessed. They did get Mia. David killed her, but revived her, and David gets possessed just as he blows up the cabin in a deleted scene. He is the 5th.

The part where the deadite cuts her tongue in half and makes out with the gf was so traumatizing 😂. I even went to see evil dead rise yesterday and it was fuckin awesome.

Ok, I know I’m a few months late - sorry, just came across the channel a few days ago - but tossing in a late vote for “Cabin in the Woods”. One of the funnest horrour films with so much rewatchability for the layers. It’ll also be more enjoyable for you now that you’ve seen some “Evil Dead” (and got a few others under your belt but Evil Dead is a big one for “Cabin”). I left the assigned Like for the Vote. :) As a side fun note: this movie is a continuation not a reboot, despite the name. Besides the Ash cameo, the car that Jane Levy’s sitting on at the start is part of the original films. This cabin has been causing havoc for a long time.

This remake was good and I still love it more then Evil Dead Rise but Rise was still really good. That being said I think there’s something that the next movie should do. They need to take the stylistic elements of the remake and Rise (the design of the deadites, the eye color, the rotting flesh and black goo) and the pure horror of the them, and combine it with the wacky nature of Evil Dead 2. I see it in my head and I know it would work. The kills and the body horror need to be cranked up to 20 but also done in a funny way. They also need to give the deadites more personality. Make them funnier. But also, the first two Evil Dead films had more then just possessions. The environment would move, inanimate objects would scream or laugh (think Evil Dead 2) that needs to be incorporated into the next film but modernize it. It can be done. I think, I hope, I will be done.

Cabin in the Woods, The Village and Triangle are the three that would get my highest priority vote for your awesome reactions! Then It Follows, Unfriended, Oculus, The Fear Street trilogy, The Cleansing Hour and definitely the Orphan! Don't Breathe and the Bates Motel series too, and maybe some AHD at some point, if that's not getting too greedy - can't get enough of you, darlin, what can I say?

You have to watch the original and you absolutely should do a reaction video for it. It's like watching the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hills Have Eyes, there's something low budget and creepy about them. They're not like the higher budget original Halloween at all. Plus, those 3 originals have a lot freaking soundtracks, especially Texas Chainsaw Massacre which just has weird noise music.

It's a story in the same universe, as is Evil Dead Rise. Sam Raimi has been toying with the idea of doing a film with Mia from this movie and Ash from the original films together.

Big big yes to watching Cabin in the Woods. It’s funny,it’s scary,it’s got surprises, endearing characters, not to mention what I’m sure is your absolute favorite thing in the world, which is gore. It’s very fun,so much so that ai saw it twice in theaters and tried to convince others(who wouldn’t listen) to go see it.I’d also like to take this opportunity(while not,I repeat not, getting mad) to implore you to see the ones from the 80s.The first ones a straight up horror movie, two is more comedic, and Army of Darkness is basically an action fantasy.

after the demon is summoned it possesses an inanimate object (in this movies case a tree) so it can catch and take over a human host. it can then infect other people, (like how a zombie would) and after you’re infected a different demon can possess you.

Evil Dead 1 and Evil Dead 2 from the eighties are basically the same movie. Evil Dead 2 is a remake of Evil Dead 1. The first is supposed to be serious and is great in its own way, but I prefer the second version (Evil Dead 2) for its hilarious campiness. Think The Three Stooges meets The Exorcist. Army of Darkness is also comedy horror (Evil Dead 3). Staying canonical, the series Ash Meets the Evil Dead is a continuation of that original story. I think most people suggested the 2013 version is that they are probably too young to remember the original, but for us die-hard fans, Bruce Campbell is and always will be The Evil Dead. Saying that, I love the 2013 incarnation and Evil Dead Rise from the same universe but with different characters are great too. 😃
