Galina is a masterpiece and as a CHVRCHES fan that quite literally just got obsessed with this album I would say you should check out their album Screen Violence. It's a dark and moody synthpop like Girl With No Face is but more aimed at being horror themed however Lauren put a lot of personal stories into the lyrics as well. CHVRCHES brought synthpop back into the main stream 10+ years ago the pop world has just finally caught up these past years but chvrches have always been a border act that has been in-between pop and alternative.

Galina is my favourite so far off the album. It gets stuck in my head so often so far, and everytime I listen I just want to move and dance. Overall, I'm just so proud of Alliex. Being able to just go with her full creative vision on a project is such a brave move to do in the industry, and for everything to come out so polished is incredible. She continues to be one of my favourite pop artists. ❤

John and Jonathan, along with Galina, are the best on the album in my opinion, AND IT'S BECAUSE I LOVE THE STORY BEHIND IT. In John and Jonathan, Allie X is literally telling the story of those boys' journey to the city where she performed the concert. I perceive it as them arriving from the trip, walking through the streets, then going to their hotel and waking up at 8 am to go to the café and have breakfast. After that, they get ready for the concert and there they say nice words to Allie, and that's why she would say "I'll save it for a rainy day." Galina is also PURE ART because of the story of the woman who used to prepare creams for Allie, and now that she's gone, she doesn't know where to get it since only Galina knew the recipe. BETH, I'm here for Allie's storytelling HAHAHAHAHHAHA

Allie X about Galina: “I have really bad eczema in my inner elbows, and I found this Russian lady named Galina at this naturopathic clinic in Toronto. For years, she made me this cream in her kitchen that worked better than steroids. She would always say, ‘It cost me more to make this than I’m charging you. I get this man in the Swiss Alps to gather these herbs and I make you this cream.’ She was pretty old, so I always worried: ‘What happens when Galina retires? It’s not like this is some patented product.’ So sure enough, in the summer of 2022, I returned to the clinic, and I was like, ‘Could I place an order for the cream from Galina?’ And the lady was like, ‘Oh, Galina has retired.’ And I was like, ‘What!?! Did she tell anyone the recipe?‘ And she was like, 'No, she won’t tell. There’s nothing we can do-Galina has lost her memory”

Early contender for AOTY for me! It’s just so cohesive. Since the pandemic, you could say 80s synths have been overused at this point but I think this is the best interpretation any artist has done. Allie X put her own unique spin on the sound and the fact she self-produced the whole thing is incredible. Just wait until you listen with headphones, Beth. According to Genius, Galina is a Russian origin and means ‘peace, tranquility’ which really puts the song into perspective.

On Apple Music's album bio, Galina is actually about a naturopath (of that name) who made a special eczema cream for her. Galina one day retired out of the blue due to memory loss, and therefore couldn't pass on the special recipe to anyone else :(

I’ve followed Allie since before the release of collxtion II and it’s been an amazing journey. each album truly gets better! if you like the strange quirkiness of allie’s pop music i heavily suggest taking a listen to Jessica Winter. she is a very small, underrated artist with a similar vibe to allie! she has three eps out now and i believe she mentioned she hopes to release her debut album this year!

I think another meaning for “Girl With No Face” just expands from the original idea of “X” and anonymity. Could also be thought of as unknown person or someone who can change or be anything depending on the situation.

I love the whole album and your observations. I came across the album without having heard any of the four singles, and it's a lot of excellent art to absorb. I believe that "You Slept On Me" contains elements of "Maniac" by Micheal Sambello (Flashdance) while "Off With Her Tits" could definitely be be a tribute to the song "Don't Go" by Yaz, "Black Eye" dramatic intro notes are Identical as "Bad" by Micheal Jackson. I wish I could remember exactly or had a screenshot but I remember reading an instagram story or smth from Allie where she said that Galina is about a close friend who like turned on her and left her suddenly or something. Don't quote me on it but unfortunately I can't find any proof of her saying that either :( Maybe it's not an actual friend but more her likening something that's gone to a "friend". Another thing, Galina feels a lot like Cape God to me, which I find really interesting. Maybe it's just because of Sarah Come Home 😅 But I thing it's a great song!!
