sure ribrianne is annoying but this isnt really out of character for dragon ball, this is the show where there are talking dinosaurs, the king of the world is a dog, all of penguin villige, there was a guy who could turn you into a carrot who was taken to the moon to make some marshmellow treats for kids. this show isnt a serious show its got serious moments but the core of the show has always been comedy, like when 17 blasts them during the transformation an is like what they were wide open is a funny scene. this scene wouldnt have happend if not for ribrianne.

Though I don't particularly like this episode I don't for second think "they were lazy". It's clearly a parody of the magical girl subgenre and meant to be ridiculous. 17's no-nonsense attitude, interrupting a typical anime transformation, is a meta-commentary on this series and the whole genre of drawn out power ups, long explanatory monologues, and waiting till the last moment to use a "final form" during life and death situations.

Can someone explain why they didn’t like this episode/fighters?They were really entertaining and brought a different aspect of what another universe can bring. If every universe was the same with the same character ideas repeated through 11 universes then wouldn’t that get repetitive?? Imo and Ik a lot of people I’ve watched this with say they brought diversity and comedy (I mean 17 blasting Ribrianne when she’s transforming is peak DB comedy). And I also really appreciate the fact that Ribrianne transformed into someone heavier - after always watching anime girls and Sailormoon being super skinny and delicate, seeing Ribrianne like that gave it a grate touch. Why was it ok for Buu to be happy and chunky but not Ribrianne?

Yeah 17 was the MVP of this episode. He may not be a heavy hitter like Goku and Vegeta but he knew to be practical. Attack the trio mid transformation should have stuck but hey its DB, take out the winged fighter to keep her from saving her other teammates, and since the rule is you fall you’re out he used his ki blast as base to force the cat lady out of the ring.

Honestly nothing made me happier than when Universe 2 got eliminated from the tournament, especially those lovey-dovey female fighters. If memory serves, those warriors were a nod to the Sailor Moon franchise, which I couldn't stand as a kid. Back when the dub of Sailor Moon was airing on Toonami, I couldn't even get through one episode without cringing really bad and desperately wanting it to be over. When a show is so god awful you actually welcome commercial breaks... that's definitely saying something. I know people liked Sailor Moon back then, but for me to say that I could never get into it would be the understatement of the millennium lol.

Remembering the tournament of power, I had a mostly positive experience. But now really looking back on it, there was a whole bunch of bs. Universe 2 was annoying as hell and there was just a bunch of fighters with terrible designs that I just hated when they were onscreen. It was around episode 121 where it was consistently good without any bad interruptions like Ribrianne. Still though, the arc was good overall.
