Slipknot fan here. For starters Paul died and corey and the band took it extremly hard. Corey cried getting his memorial tattoo for him. I've met corey 12 times now to date, hes amazing. I've seen them 40 something times. This song is a very close to home song seeing I've met them many times and got the chance to meet Paul. Their music got me through 5he scariest years of my life. My first concert was slipknot at 11 years old. Their music continues to save me from my inner demons from ptsd. I hope you read lyrics of his not just from slipknot but from his side band stone sour. Hes a very raw emotional artist. The song snuff is so heavy on the emotions. I'd react to that one if you want to hear his raw emotions come through. Hes a rock god

Each album cycle they change their their look and their masks.... so when they were dying, it was them in their old masks from the previous cycle... and they are wearing their new masks when they are playing their instruments. So it really is them moving forward and their new album.

Just in case Alex isnt aware, they lost one band member to death (paul, bassist) and another band member to various reasons (joey, drummer). If you notice, the two new band members have basically the same masks, but they are based off the old members masks, just blanked out with burlap and stuff, because at the time they were like "fuck these guys what gives them the right". The ritual killing of them was a mark of acceptance, because as they were killing themselves, they were bringing the new band members in with them to the new phase.

FIRST, also this album is from .5 the grey chapter. Paul Grey is the member that we lost a few years ago. also the video has all the members showing parts of them facing there fears. aka the dog biting, the blown up, the birds, so on so forth. the masks were origonally worn to protect there identity so they wouldn't be able to be recognized in public, and being metal they are also a form of art for them to express.

The video is absolutely amazing and intense! You have to know that their masks are not just costumes. They have a deeper meaning to the (original) band members. They changed them when the persons behind them experienced changes in their lives and therefore also the music of Slipknot changed. As you mentioned they lost with Paul not only a band member but also a long year friend. So in this video they kill themselves wearing the old masks to be able to move on. As the album title suggests, the whole album is about this loss, the pain and moving on.

This music video is super fascinating (especially to long-time Slipknot fans) because when you see them "killing" themselves, they're killing off their old iterations (or their demons), you see them in their old outfits and masks, marking a new era of them moving forward. Also, Paul Grey was the original bass player/one of the founding members of the band, and passed away back in 2010. RIP, check out some of their live tributes to him if you haven't already, very heartfelt stuff
