Amid the desolate remains of a once-thriving city, only the rumbling of a motorbike breaks the cold winter silence. Its riders, Chito and Yuuri, are the last survivors in the war-torn city. Scavenging old military sites for food and parts, the two girls explore the wastelands and speculate about the old world to pass the time. Chito and Yuuri each occasionally struggle with the looming solitude, but when they have each other, sharing the weight of being two of the last humans becomes a bit more bearable. Between Yuuri's clumsy excitement and Chito's calm composure, their dark days get a little brighter with shooting practice, new books, and snowball fights on the frozen battlefield.

I love how each episode of girls last tour makes me smile with glee and in the end lets me feel a sense of meloncholy. Each episode feels like their own story that delves into this genre of a positive vibe from the characters and a negative destroyed world. Its an emotional rollercoaster for sure that i love to watch again. One of the most beautiful and meloncholic moment was the radio episode. You know when you see it.

I happen to feel that the show is perfect in all sense of post-apocalypse. BobSamurai came off as ignorant to the themes. Yes, he understood what they meant; but the implication behind the world the characters inhabit change the way that those themes are explored. You can say that Fallout had the same themes in those games, however the badass nature of the creatures, civilization, and living wasteland undermine the "taking for granted" aspect. As for me, I believe the show and manga executes everything with flying colors. The atmosphere is very desolate, yet tranquil. The world opens a new interesting thematic element each episode, be it setting design or world-info (through building structure or destroyed equipment). The characters are just lovable and play off each other as two sisters would, fuck the Yuuri haters. The supporting characters and world allow for a gradual build of setting information that answer questions in each episode. They do not give full exposition, but they give subtle enough clues to keep the audience fully engaged. This climb helps the pacing seem quite fast (in my opinion), because each new bit of information reveals a lot about the technology seen in previous episodes; since each episode jumps futher in tech in some way. This world-building and character interactions basically allows GLT to be the perfect send-off for humanity as they will eventually decay into the Earth for oblivion

The anime also gives a good viewpoint on war as in some episodes they would talk about why war exists, why did people fight each other. The best parts of this are when they are continuing their journey, they go to shrines, houses, listen to a form of music (episode 5) etc. And you get a really good idea of all of the things war got rid of. I mean these girls don't even know what most common knowledge things are such as music or even food such as cheese and chocolate. I also forgot about the giant robot and the videos that showed example of war. Another example would be when Yuuri used the robot to accidently destroy a part of the city, Chito was horrified at the destruction capabilities of the weapon as to Yuuri was enjoying of how powerful it was.

I watched like the first six episodes of this on Amazon and it made me wonder "why I was watching this anime that is basically about nothing?" to say this anime is weird and leaves a lot of things unexplained is to say the ocean is wet.I don't think I'm going to continue watching this because there's a lot of other anime I would rather watch instead. I will admit that the art style is rather interesting very unique. Their equipment is rather interesting too. What is it about the Japanese that they are so obsessed with the wehrmacht? Why does the blonde girl have a Kar 98k? It's not like there's anything to shoot. Also one final question: how is it possible that their kettenkrad never runs out of fuel?
@zoob6510
@zoob6510 Жыл бұрын
It seems to me that you are not paying attention to the story. First, Yuri's gun is a Japanese Army Type 38. As one feature, this is drawn in the first episode to use 6.5 mm bullets. Viewers can see that their clothes and weapons are a mix of countries. For example, Chito's helmet is British style and her clothing is American style. From the date of the first camera view, we can see that this world is a summer day in Japan over a thousand years in the future. Civilization has been destroyed once, and there is only technology to make things of World War II level based on old documents. They don't even know how a digital camera works. Second, the Kettenkrad has a drum-shaped container attached to it, and there is a depiction of putting spare fuel in this. There are mentions and depictions of the two traveling and stopping while looking for a refueling station. This story has a lot of elements that keep me hooked so deeply that it never gets boring, but it's not for the non-observant.

Great review on a fantastic series & all those roasts on Bobsamurai lmao Should mention that the entire ED was animated by Tkmiz, that's why the style is the same as the manga & why bits of the manga ending got snuck in there. How did you react to the manga ending, btw? I expected it but it still broke me. It was beautifully bittersweet, IMO.
@Anigamichan
@Anigamichan 6 жыл бұрын
+GTP1001 I can see that. Makes sense. I thought the manga ending was perfect and anything more wouldn't have felt right. Supposedly there is a bonus chapter or something releasing to flesh out the conclusion more though? I don't feel it's really neated. The manga itself was a good read all though a lot of the unadapted chapters were pretty weak with my stand outs without spoiling being the one about the AI and the other about the Kettenkrad.
@SuperTungxeo
@SuperTungxeo 6 жыл бұрын
Not sure if the bonus chapter will actually be a continuation on the ending. Some speculate that it might just be a bonus side chapter, kinda like the Bath, House, Moonlight, & Destruction chapters, which are added in the middle of the volume. I agree the ending is perfect & anything extra would be unnecessary.

And yet with all your criticisms of the anime, this story after finishing the manga as left me emotionally scarred and traumatized. How can that be? You're right, the animation is kind of simplistic but yet complex in some of the scenes. Like for instance when Chito put the portrait next to the cave drawing. Has there been a more powerful scene? Or the Wonder in their eyes when they downloaded all the pictures from the camera. Or the complete sadness of this situation from the AI that asks to be turned off because it has no more meaning but the worst for me was the very last panel in the manga. When you realize they were starving, exhausted, suffering from exposure, hopeless and yet still trying to encourage each other as they said good night. How can you not cry thinking about how our girls have suffered. 💔☹️.

I disagree with your preference on always maintaining ambiguity. The build up of world building would never have given us the amazing catharsis of the last episode. The same can be said for their backstory: can we really appreciate them as characters if we never really understand how they got to where they are? Ambiguity works quite often, but only if there's some sort of release to dispel the frustration of the viewer's curiosity. Otherwise there's just confusion and dissatisfaction. That said, Girl's Last Tour was the post-apocalyptic iyashikei we have been missing since YKK. Love it quite a lot.
@Anigamichan
@Anigamichan 6 жыл бұрын
+Kabcr1 The last episode and how the information was delivered was a far superior version of the grandfather flashback scene and accomplished way more. I still stand by the pointlessness of the flashback scene as we learned nothing new about either of the characters while also taking away the ambugity of Chi's offhand mentions to the grandfather. It was a lose, lose.
@Kabcr
@Kabcr 6 жыл бұрын
Anigami I won't try to change your mind but for me, the brief flashbacks showed for me that they were child orphans and the grandpa, their foster parent: an important distinction to make from a traditional interpretation of family. It might have been redundant to you in that we knew they left because of desertion, but that sequence gave us closure while showing us that they didn't really have a life to live beforehand, even if it's partly told through their ignorance about the world. Also, their constant near starvation likely shows us Yuri's reason for being a glutton, and the importance of her development with the fish. In any case, I strongly agree with your review and am impressed by the work you put into it. My dissent isn't meant to criticize your work, because you did a great job. It's merely a difference of opinion.
@Anigamichan
@Anigamichan 6 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. I suppose I didn't look at it like you did and with that in mind definitely agree a lot more your points. I guess the only downside of the flashback is how much of a blatant flashback info dump it was when every other source of past information actually had a unique vessel to deliver it (i.e the camera.) In comparison things such as flashbacks and generic dream sequences stood out much more in a series like this that all in all delivered it's exposition in more interesting and meaningful ways within the world. No worries. Appreciate the differing opinion and praise.
