I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage) They had sold out the arena so we were 10 766 metalheads in the arena (going by facts online and in the newspaper after the show) Needless to say, it was one hell of a show that night.

About the flags. Ukraine's modern flag was first adopted in 1848 and is celebrated each year at August 23rd. The colors are believed to come from the Prince Danylo Romanovych 13th century Lviv coat of arms, depicting a golden lion on a blue background. Although the true origins are unknown both for the Ukrainian and Swedish flags, there are many theories and there could have been some similar inspirations. The Swedish coat of arms with it's 15th century origin also depicts golden lions (two) against a blue white background, together with 3 golden crowns against a solid blue background. Further more the Ukrainian trident, tryzyb stems from the Rurik Kyivan Rus' period 10th-12th century. It does resemble a crown, much like the Swedish coat of arms, but one theory is that it might resemble the Birka Falcon, a Viking Age artefact from the same time period. The outer parts being wings of a upside down Falcon diving to attack it's prey.

Whenever I see the flags of Denmark and Norway, I'm sometimes confused with the colors of red, white, and blue, just like Russia and Holland. But the Swedish flag does stand out because of its unique combination of colors. I'm impressed to see that there were some historical backgrounds and relationships between Sweden and Ukraine like this way. It's awesome and thankful to hear that from the people related here, rather than AI or Wikepedia.

@@OnohaMingdong-LifeInOsaka Thank you for your reply 🙏. Regarding the flag colours of Nordic, Dutch and Slavic flags, I think we all get confused 😅. The Japanese flag is also very unique in its design. It's a great design that all people remember easily 👍. Speaking of Ukraine, their Tryzub or Trident 🔱 symbol always make me think about the very talented female Japanese rock band, also named Trident. High energy and super skilled musicians. Japan has so many great bands and artists right now. Especially female and rock. 😎🤘🇯🇵

During the Covid days when stuck in the house, I think I enjoyed many dramas and movies, especially Vikings related. I was surprised to notice that Vikings were all over the Europe, even in Africa, if I'm not wrong. Many scenes were about Kiev where we can easily find the trace of Vikings. Maybe mordern Ukraines are from them at some point, I guess.

Please note that the English version tells a different story, still about the 30 years war tho. The Swedish version is from the perspective of a young Soldier going to war, the English version tells as story, more like a birds eye view, of Europe in war.
@FamilyKim08313 ай бұрын
Swedish version with English and Swedish lyrics put on together would be perfect, I guess. 😂
@Templarofsteel882 ай бұрын
I usually explain it as the Swedish version tells the story from our/an Swedish soldier's view while the English is more from an outsider's view of the war.

Great reaction guys :) To answer your question about the connection between Sweden and Ukraine. Kiev (or what would later become Kiev as we know it ) was actually founded by vikings from sweden. And ukrainian kosacks fought alongside Karl XII at the battle of Poltava. But as far as I know there's no clear connection regarding the flags :)
@ManfromOsaka3 ай бұрын
Coincidence 🎉 but feeling like there are some kind of sharing spirits? 🤔
@henrikalexandersson46633 ай бұрын
@@ManfromOsaka Would like to think so :) Some say the choice of blue and yellow was a way to celebrate or honor sweden for trying to push the russian empire away. It's a nice thought but I have NP factual evidence that that is the case. Apparently the cosacks in the area had been using those colours for a long time
@ManfromOsaka3 ай бұрын
@henrikalexandersson4663 It looks like Sweden and Russia had been engaged in many ways to get a hegemonic power in the Northern and Eastern area of Europe. It was so smart for Sweden to be neutral during the First and Second World War in Europe.

Let's add a little. There is no recognition/place for Finnish fighters in the song. The Hakkapeliitta were Finnish cavalrymen who served in the Swedish army, especially in the Thirty Years' War. The name Hakkapeliitta comes from "Hakkaa Päälle!" - to the war cry, and it was attached to the troops with military success for the first time in the Polish War. Hakkapeliita rode Finnish horses. Later, in some contexts, all Finnish soldiers who participated in the Thirty Years' War were called Hakkapeliitos, regardless of the armed forces. Listen to Winter War by Sabaton sometimes, and it's a shame it didn't quite work out
@OnohaMingdong-LifeInOsaka3 ай бұрын
I can see that quite Finnish soldiers played great roles in the war on the Sweden side. I don't know much about European and Nordic countries' history, but there must have been lots of geopolitical situations between them in each case throughout history. Cheers to Finnish heroes 🙌

Joakim conducting a choir of thousands - practice for when his voice goes... Ukraine and Sweden share flag colors because the Kievian Rus was originally ruled by Swedish Vikings. Ukraine is one of three countries that claim origin from the Kievian Rus.

@karl-erikmumler98203 ай бұрын
I don't think that's correct. Sweden didn't really exist or have a flag at the time of the Rurikid era of Ukraine. The Swedish flag showed up much later (hence the cross) from king, saint, Erik seeing a golden cross in the sky while invading Finland in the 1200s iirc. Sweden and Ukraine were also allied during the time of Ivan Mazepa and Karl XII but I'm pretty sure the flag thing is a coincidence. I'll leave it to a Ukrainian to explain the origin of their flag btw.

“About 30 years of war” very close but no. It is about “The 30 Years War” a very specific and terrible time. Worth reacting to the Sabaton History episode on the event’s described in the song. Tragic but important to remember why we don’t let religions control governments and declare war based on religious differences.
@OnohaMingdong-LifeInOsaka3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your accurate comments about it. It looks like the history of Europe has long been engaged with the religion, mostly between Catholic and Luther, if I'm not wrong. Maybe some others. Now, the strong and irrevocable tsunami from all over the Middle East and Northern Africa to Europe is ongoing, which is not expected to get solved in the near future. Far Eastern countries don't have a religious problem, but more dangerous ones, called totalitarianism.

@@OnohaMingdong-LifeInOsaka “far eastern countries don’t have….” Thats either a bad joke or bad history. Far East has had a long bloody history with religion in both distant and modern history.
