Gisele MacKenzie & Miyoshi Umeki: Buttons & Bows duet in English & Japanese

Miyoshi Umeki knew how to spend her first Saturday night after winning an Academy Award! She joined Gisele MacKenzie as a guest on NBC-TV's Gisele MacKenzie Show. Miyoshi was making a return appearance on Gisele's show, and the two repeated a face paced duet of "Buttons & Bows" in English & Japanese, that left MS Umeki almost out of breath after singing all those Japanese lyrics! After their duet, Miyoshi presented Gisele with TV Radio Mirror's Best New Artist on Television Award, which was a forerunner to The People Choice Awards, then Gisele is joined by her four boy dancers, The Curfew Kids, for Shall We Dance from The King and I. This was live television at its best, and they got no better than the gifted Gisele MacKenzie!

I knew Giselle from Your Hit Parade but didn't know she had her own show. I hope some full episodes exist somewhere. I've been a fan of Myoshi since I first saw Flower Drum Song on a New Years Day back in the '70s. After all these years, this is the first time I've seen her outside FDS. What a treat!!

I adore Gisele MacKenzie. I had a record of her singing French folk songs which captivated me at age 11.

I'd never even heard of Ms. MacKenzie (and I am a fan of that era of television, especially TV with music, dance, comedy, arts, and such, as well as of musical theater and good singers of her style), so thanks for the introduction. Happened on her, searching for STOP THE WORLD, I WANT TO GET OFF. Big fan of Miyoshi Umeki. I love the way this show ends, and the boys are darling, frolicking around (though I suspect she got a little grease on her palm, tousling that one boy's hair).

Her show had the misfortunte of going up against "Have Gun - Will Travel" on CBS and the second-half of The Lawrence Welk Show on ABC...both big hits in their time slots.

HEY! She was the 'servant' in the US T-V show 'courtship of Ediie's Father'! Oh how ridiculous, for her talent to be reduced to such a role.
