No reason??? So you don’t think a turn 3 omniscience is a threat? Guess you gotta play against his deck or watch some of the other Atraxa games, where he just wins out of nowhere, to understand you dont let him set up.

@@InResponseEDH I feel like when Omniscience is sitting there just wiffing, it’s probably a better call to get rid of Consecrated Sphinx with Pyroblast and accept the risk of Mike maybe getting lucky. I get why Omniscience was targeted though, and we viewers have the benefit of seeing this game through the lens of editing so it jumps out as odd much easier.

Definitely felt like extremely bad threat assessment, removing the Omni over the Sphinx. Sure Omni is an super powerful card, but the player had nothing going for him. It felt like they were more scared of what could maybe happen in a parallel universe, rather than what actually happened with the Sphinx in this. The wincon of the Jin deck was so boring and anticlimactic, I had hoped for the stompy dinosaur to run with it. And that's coming from another blue player ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@InResponseEDH
@InResponseEDH 11 ай бұрын
That’s some great insight. I think the fact that we’ve seen mike snowball out of control with omniscience and very little before probably spooked Genesis a bit. Thank you for agreeing with me about the wincon. I will definitely be showing this comment to Jose 😂

@@InResponseEDH tbh, I'm hit or miss about wincons that happen out of nowhere. On one front, they're good when the person your playing against doesn't know the deck contains it. They will focus on the person who looks to have the scariest board or someone they know will run away with the game if given a little time. Essentially buying you enough time by not being the first person to take removal spells for your defensive structure. Which is exactly what happened here by focusing on the super friends to prevent them from building a board state as it's very known to snowball out of control if not held in check early. On the flip side: if they know you have it in your deck they will hold mana open or a removal spell or two specifically for it. Or they will focus you from the get go to remove the potential risk. Elves for example can win instantly if no instant speed artifact hate for staff of domination the moment anything taps for 5 mana or more. Which is very common for that deck to create. So whenever I play that deck, i'm never allowed to come near 5 mana production on one unit, or they will snipe any/all of them while holding an artifact hate in hand just for staff itself. But if talking pure fun factor and not considering the ability to win outright (assuming you aren't focused down for it's existance). it's definately not the most enjoyable way for a game to end. since it closes out pretty anti-climatically. However, if you remove that type of win-con as an option, then you almost remove 1-2 colors from even being playable at the table against decks of this power level. As it's one of their core methods of competing. So just rule 0 it, and say that it's fine just not to play every game. or they will get focused out of the game quickly.

I think it's hard to understand certain plays or decisions on screen, without knowing the player personally. Mike is a pretty spikey player sometimes the worst thing you can do is give him room to breathe. If you do thats when he combos off on you.

@@mynt4033 Totally agree, it is. I think it would have been correct to shoot the sphinx since Mike only had a couple cards in hand and none were counters or kill spells. Genesis didn't have all the information so getting Omniscience was a safe play.

@@orgazmo686971 There is no way to tell what would have been in his had, or what he'd draw into. Pyroblast on omni was the right choice and most good players would have done the same. Plus creatures are always a lot easier to get rid of so you can always bank on it later. You only get so many opportunities to remove an enchantment as good as omniscience
