the people referenced were "martyrs" in the 1st century. Not limited to the apostles. Ceasar Nero was known for this and can be referenced by reviewing Roman Historian Tacticus (he was a young boy living in Rome during the time of the martyrdoms). His book is called Annals. He is not the only person who recorded it. Second point... Are not eyewitness testimonies considered valid in court? BTW, the gospel of John does record a courtroom testimony. Pontius Pilate was the judge.

The problem is not that the overwhelming evidence doesn't convince them logivally but that they made up their mind beforehand not wanting to be convinced so they make up excuses for every evidence presented. The question you really have to ask them is: "If Christianity is true would you become a Christian." If their answer is"no", no piece of evidence will ever convince them. They are not on a truth quest but a happiness quest. They are a cynik, not a skeptic. I thank God for the wonderful evidence we have and that he gave me a rational mind to understand that following Christ is the only way to heaven.

these students care not if there is a God, they just want to ask questions proving their theory is right. No need to convince people of God but let them decide for themselves after preaching the gospel, there is more evidence that God is real and that these people are contradicting themselves.

+TipsyTerby Very well put dude :). I noticed something else as-well which is the a last kid with the back-pack with the white shirt, was being an intellectual hypocrite & totally contradicted himself on that part of the video 16:50 mins. He says "why there wasn't any cameras or tape recorders back then to record the talking". Then Cliffe gives the example with (Forrest Gump) shaking Kennedy's hand explaining to him "that it wasn't real & that it was edited". Then the kid says "that it gives more crediting to the fact that is true". That is totally intellectual hypocrisy, because if it had happen that someone had recorded one of the followers of Jesus that claimed he/she speaking with Jesus in person I bet you that people will not be satisfied with that type of evidence either and would say it's a fallacy by saying 'it's just hearsay or the tape has been falsely edited'. So it boils down to the whole fact that people just don't want see or can't think beyond using their common-sense to rationalize, and as a paradox! 'having too much intelligence is mother-fucking dangerous' because that's what makes people lack common-sense to think of the simple basic things in life.

I've spoken with Cliff during his visits to the University of Arizona for a number of years now and have never found him to be persuasive. As a graduate student in Classics, specializing in Ancient History, I have studied many ancient texts in both Latin and Greek, including the Koine Greek texts in the N.T. The gospels have unknown authorship, rely primarily on oral tradition, were composed after a substantial time gap, and are written as theologies rather than history.

Yes many people die for what they believe. But being torturously murdered for something you know is false is a totally different story. And that's what Matthew is suggesting happened.
@swamislocal112 жыл бұрын
The apocryphal books were rejected for such reasons. They did not mesh with the reliable accounts of the new testament. (written hundreds of years later) I became a Christian at 25 and much like Simon Greenleaf I made sure the scriptures are trustworthy. Simon was the most famous professor of Law from Harvard. He developed the system of evaluating evidence that we use in law today. He was challenged by collegues to apply this to the ressurection claim, and he became a believer as a result.
@swamislocal112 жыл бұрын
Not true Matthew, Acts was dated 62 AD written by Luke. This was obviously after the Gospell of Luke, and most biblical historians agree that Lukes gospel was not the first, but rather Mark was. So even being conservative with tracking backward we end up within about a decade of the life of Christ.

Yes, I do believe that Jesus existed, as did Saint Nicholas and Elvis. However, that does not mean that I believe in Santa Clause or that Elvis is still alive. Jesus' life can be explained the same way as other ancient persons who had miracles attributed to them (e.g. Vespasian).

When Cliffe's elementary argument breaks down he starts to attack the person. I have watched Cliffe in many debates and he has yet to do well. He went to a no-name college and learned how to trap a person in a position and argue against what he thinks they believe. He has a spiel he likes to say and doesn't take seriously what his opponent is saying. This is entertaining and quite sad at the same time. He should just encourage them to search and find their own truth.
@p.as.in.pterodactyl10242 жыл бұрын
He does encourage people to exercise rational thinking, to think for themselves, including to read for themselves whatever sources they might want to attack prior to attacking them... I don't think him going to a "no name college" is relevant in the slightest. I also find that he takes incredibly seriously what his "opponents" (your term, not mine) say. Does Cliffe sometimes not perfectly understand what the other person is saying? Yes, as is the case with me. And, I'd be willing to bet, as is the case with you.

Five people see a horrendous car accident. The police question the five eye witnesses separately and take their testimony. Each told what they saw from their perspective but all agreed, car A was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran the red light striking car B who had the green light . The eye witnesses may have differing minor details but that doesn’t make their eye witness testimony less reliable because they all agree on what caused the accident. It’s really hypocritical to say the eye witness testimony of the disciples about the resurrection of Christ is unreliable just because it happened 2,000 year ago, but eyewitness testimony is reliable because it happened today.
