Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

@@buddhikaw well if you consider the evidence presented to us... if we look at another example Julius Cesar we know Julius caesar existed because of coins with his inscription on them and through his writings Cesar's Gallic wars written sometime between 58BC and 50BC earliest copy we have dates from AD900 a gap of 950 years and we have 9/10 copys of Cesar's gallic wars so that's very good evidence that julius Cesar existed according to historians. Now if you compare and contrast with Jesus Christ the predominant writings that we have are obviously the gospels themselves Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and if you take John's Gospel for example it was written down somewhere between AD40 and AD100 the earliest copy we have of a fragment of John's gospel dates back to AD130 a gap of 130 years as opposed to the gap of 950 years of Julius Cesar's gallic wars, the amount of copys we have of the Rylands fragments of John's gospel are 5000 Greek copies, 10,000 copys in Latin and 7,300 in other languages, if you compare the 9 to 10 copies of Julius caesar's gallic wars in comparison to the 22,300 copies of Rylands fragments of the gospel of John alone that we have, which original dates around about AD130 on that evidence you won't find many historians out there who would disagree that a historical person called Jesus Christ existed, so if a historical Jesus existed what do we do with him? because he made some pretty outrageous claims he said he was the son of God, and he said he was the messiah which was the claim that got him crucified, so we are left to make a decision with Jesus, was he mad or bad or Lord? If we decide he was mad theres a problem because one of Jesus enemy's a man named Josephus in his writings he wrote around the same time he mentioned that Jesus was doing some miraculous things, being a enemy why would he say that unless it was true? If someone's mad you would normally just disregard them, if we decide he was bad its hard to reconcile with what we read in the bible because Jesus showed extraordinary love and grace and patience towards people, you could its said just come to the conclusion that he was a great prophet or a very wise man, but Jesus never claimed to be that he claimed to be the son of God, he claimed to be the messiah or last of all you could come to the conclusion I have and thousands and millions of people around the world have come to and still come to today and that is that he is God and we should listen to him and trust him.

I used to think a lot of the same things but the difference was, when people started poking all of these major holes in my thinking I didn’t keep holding on to them to be right. And simply being clever and making a joke isn’t enough to make me back down. Hitchens has a few clever jokes but it simply wasn’t enough. These people really can’t explain morality and right and wrong. Love and sacrifice. It simply goes against your best interest, and you can’t say your best interest is to keep society going so you just choose to play along. If I’m gonna die and that’s it, then it’s my sole best interest to indulge in hedonism until I die. It will never be in my best interest to create a better world for my children. That involves hard work and sacrifice. It’s in my best interest to eat all the food, get all the money, have all the sex, and fight anyone who is stopping me from doing so. Why go try to stop a kidnapper from snatching a child when I could risk being killed in the process when I have eaten enough food or had enough sex yet? I gotta look out for myself lol. The Koran does not contain a single prophecy, so its credibility cannot be tested, which makes the Koran uninteresting to me because it is a human invention. God clearly says that you can recognize HIM by His prophecies coming true, you can really do something with that. The problem is that love is a personality not an emotion.. yes you can see an emotion on a functional mri brain scan such as happiness, anger, fear etc.. but you can’t do a functional brain mri scan and say this person is agreeable, neurotic, etc. Love has been diluted to an action and an emotion when really it’s a personality. We become loving, we are to love the world. You wouldn’t say my mom loves me because she opened the door for me or made me dinner. It’s a multitude of actions that has molded her into a person that loves you.

The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, meekness and self-control. You and/or a mother CHOOSES to live or not to live those qualities out. A person's chemicals do not dictate their decision. They have a choice. Jesus' chemicals did not send him to the Cross. He chose to go to the cross and sweated blood because he knew what was coming and the suffering He was to endure. When I had appendicitis about 7 years ago I was in absolute agony. My nervous system let me know I was in excruciating pain and I was suffering. 'I' was suffering. 'I' was in pain. 'I' was feeling sick. The human body is simply a carriage for the soul. I and every person gets to experience life through the human body's senses. Sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. I experience awe, wonder, fear, anxiety, happiness, sadness, pain and joy. Not my chemicals, pain receptors or endorphins but 'I'. The fact that I can logically acknowledge the separation of body and soul demonstrates that their is a difference. If I couldn't acknowledge that then my mind is not being controlled by myself but my chemicals, but I am also showing an 'awareness' of the brains chemicals. Thus my spirit/soul is aware of what is going on inside my own body through knowledge of how my body works and how each organ has it's own function. When one organ fails it can affect the whole body. The body ages and eventually dies but the soul never ages. You are still you on the inside. You can self analyse your own thoughts and behaviours. Your inner chemicals don't do that. When one subjects themselves to legal or illegal drugs, sometimes the drugs take over a person's body which they have no control over. They initially chose to take the drugs but the result of too much of a bad thing results in a person losing the ability to function in a sober and healthy way. Not because they chose to but because they allowed something else to take over and their thinking and rational thought becomes distorted. Everything starts with a thought. The fact you can think shows a person is more than just controlled by their inner chemicals.

Absolutely correct. Even more plausible when you consider that we are talking about over 2000 years ago. Not to say that people living back then were more stupid, I don't believe they were any less intelligent than people today but they would have had far less knowledge about how the things we observe in nature work, like lightning and thunder for example. They observed and heard the lightning and thunder phenomenon, just like we do today and reasoned that it was being controlled by higher beings, gods etc who were literally throwing the lightning bolts and making the roaring sounds in their righteous anger. That's not necessarily stupid, far from it, that was actually clever reasoning for the time but it lacked knowledge, hence they came to the wrong conclusion even though their ability to reason was fine in and of itself. Peoples levels of knowledge and their levels of intelligence are often understandably confused but they are separate things. Very important to understand the difference. To be honest, had I been born back then and lived in those times, I would almost certainly have been convinced of all kinds of stuff just like that, which we now know to be false. It's hardly surprising even in the least that back in those days, people were convinced that a man rose from the dead after nearly three days. For people who were already convinced that magic and gods exist, rising from the dead for them was just another 'amazing phenomenon of the gods". They would have been prepared to accept anything, all they had to be told was that "the gods were involved", that's all, and it was fine as far as they were concerned. Not to say it definitely didn't happen but the willingness of people to believe such a thing would have been much stronger than today because we all know now that biologically, the idea of a human body coming back to life after a few days is out of the question under NORMAL circumstance. A few minutes, sure, even a few hours if efforts have been continuously made to try and keep their bodily functions operating, sure, that has been known but after nearly three days would require something that defies all our modern understanding to occur in order for us to accept this and it is more difficult now, although there are quite obviously people who still believe it because they are convinced that there is a God who can defy our understanding of biology.

Well, that is kind of self-evident, isn't it? But the disciples were in the unique position of knowing empirically whether or not the message they carried was true. And even doubters like you recognize the value of the teachings of Jesus, while your own moral conscience demonstrates that God exists. (Romans 2:14-15) Or are you one of those who is willing to say that there isn't anything wrong with anything? If you judge yourself by the standard of The 10 Commandments, would you find yourself innocent or guilty? Do you believe that evil doers should be punished?

@@JohnCashin Excellent points John, when you think about it, this is where the concept of sacrifices came from.. offering things we held in high regard as offerings to this unseen God that shook the ground violently and destroyed homes and killed people in the process, .. they wouldn't have a clue about why earthquakes occurred or why floods wiped out communities.. the only rational explanation open to them was that it MUST have been some supernatural being beyond the clouds that was angry with them for some reason, so if they could appease that God in the sky, and give him something precious, a burnt offering of some description, he would refrain from his anger and not shake the ground again, .. the Old Testament is full of the Israelites making burnt offerings to the God they believed in. You make an excellent point about how these people weren't stupid, given their lack of knowledge it would make perfect sense that an unseen God was somehow looking down on them and making the sky crash with thunder, and throwing down lightning bolts, or shaking the ground. It HAD to be an unseen God, it couldn't be anything else, we would think the same today if all of our scientific knowledge was taken away. It took people with exceptional minds to work out that, no, in actual fact, there is a perfectly good reason why those things happen, and we CAN explain it. The more and more we learned, the less this unseen God was relevant to explain it. When you think about it, even Christianity itself is based on a child sacrifice.. that of Gods son. It's all fascinating stuff.

I would like to ask cliff what he thinks about the fact that every marginalized people have some kind of savior they think is going to save them. The early Christians weren't a marginalized group already existing in the Roman Empire that needed a savior. They were believers in response to an event that had occurred, which was the resurrection of Christ. The promise of salvation had preceded any marginalization. Also, the New Testament wasn't written first and then people were made to believe it. The resurrection occurred which triggered the writings of the New Testament. If there was no resurrection, there's no Christianity.
