Back in the day people would decorate maybe a couple weeks before Christmas, not the day after Halloween. Commercialism has really taken over lately.

It's been a tradition to go around the hoods and admire the Christmas lights either Thanksgiving wknd (if some were up) or in the early wks. of December. On many Christmas Eves my Mother made oyster stew and Dad had brought home a huge box of chocolate candy. Then by 6-7 am the next morning we were up opening our presents before our parents woke up. They were sleeping off the stew and beer and being up late wrapping gifts for 6 kids.
