I can't believe no one mentioned that Alex Wolff was in HEREDITARY, where he was brilliant, and should've also been given the Oscar for (you cowards).

About him not showering--I think the blood on his face is metaphorical for his grief and how injured he is emotionally. It represents his pain. It gets worse as the movie goes on, and at the end we can see him sitting in his room alone, without his pig, and bloody, beat-up, and exhausted. At the start, he looks so much better and his pig is with him. The fact that he never washed the blood off his face adds SO much to the movie for me.

I'm listening to this podcast while driving to work and I swear I didn't expect to suddenly cry when Zach mentioned Nic Cage / Robin's reason for finding pig and then Kelsey said she's going to cry again...tears tears tears!!! I'm so glad for your spoilers (when normally I wouldn't want to know) because now I know it's worth giving this movie a watch.

Im cryingggggg. How about the end scene? going back to his little shack, after a whirlwind of a few days, puts on his wife's recording saying 'i love you' or whatever and playing acoustic and he just sits and listens. alone. Arent we all? 😭

Okokok I am so thankful for this podcast! I watched it, but in the wrong mindset and mostly on my phone. I knew I missed most of it, and by the end I knew it’d be a while before I had the emotional capacity to rewatch it. As the daughter of a chef who has had to grieve him for a decade because he’s too harmful to have a relationship with (I was reeeeally going the way of the evil chef’s wife before I left) being able to listen to the explanation of the movie in such a referential way from you guys has just been such a gift. The grief and loss was done well and I love the bits that y’all highlighted. Thanks for making and sharing 💞

So I did the thing and actually stopped this podcast to watch this movie like you guys said. Thanks guys :) Been a bit of a daze afterwards because I really wasn't expecting that. It was truly a rumination on grief and letting go, and how/when/why, oh man.
@nextbexthing2 жыл бұрын
Oh my god, Zach. How dare you criticize Tick Tick Boom. Love you, but please don't let your Nick Cage love somehow cloud the genius of Andrew Garfield, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Jonathan Larson. That movie was also a masterpiece. LMM's interpretation of a one-man show into a multilayered cinematic journey was an incredible feat and Andrew Garfield's performance was a perfect tribute.

“Less is way more”. Thank you!!! American Movies - that was the thing I hated about American movies generally. I’ve been saying it forever before I eventually just stopped going to movies - lost any interest I ever had. So thanks for this one - a thread of hope.

Finding this movie on Hulu, 2 years later. You learn almost everything about the main character within the opening scene between him and the pig, not throughout the film. He's cooking at the cabin, with basic ingredients he still has a flair and finesse to preparing a meal. When he gets batteries he briefly plays the tape of his wife, but he's in pain and cannot listen for long without putting it away. His wife is dead. He's a chef. He secluded himself in the woods.

OMG I love this movie so much. I sat in the theater with my friend for like 10 minutes after we watched it just sniffling and enjoying the moment. I love the melancholy mood that it sits in and compared it to Bon Iver's music. Like, it was sad, but it was so comforting at the same time. :)

Finally watched Pig…. That movie made me cry with the relationship between Nic Cage and his truffle buyer with the cooking, how Cage connected with every other character in the movie and it’s…. It’s mind blowing.

I am a huge Nic Cage fan and this movie was filmed like an hour and a half from where I live. And when I heard he was there, my spouse had to literally hold me back from driving around Portland all day every day looking for Nic Cage. Seconding the other comments saying to watch Face Off, that movie is INSANE. We quote it constantly, you will not regret it! Also Vampire's Kiss!

This actually got me to watch the movie and come back 😂 didn’t we have enough information to tell he was a chef from the fight club scene when they mention how it’s for restaurant workers? At least that’s when I put it together, then other things before the Finways scene also confirmed it (for example, when Amir apologizes for not being able to cook well)

I stopped to watch it. I cried a lot. More then I thought I would. Had no idea the Pacific Northwest could look so beautiful and rainy instead of other movies where it's ugly and rainy. Is this movie anti-capitalist? Is that even possible as it makes money? Idk. I loved it.

Talking about crying over eating beef after just talking about someone’s connection with an animal - an animal that people consume - is grotesque. People don’t realise how f*cked up their views are when it comes to animal welfare. If you eat animals, you are NOT an animal lover.
@TheJayWashExperience2 жыл бұрын
I may be an outlier here: I HATE this movie. I’ll give it up for the acting, but the script and premise is SO FUCKING STUPID AND UNREALISTIC. This should have been a dramedy instead of a full on drama, and it would have been so much better that way. it explains why Nicolas Cage would do this because no other actor would touch this. I can’t say it’s guilty because the acting was believable, but it’s not a pleasure the premise is dumb AF
