I have taken many cuttings and mini plants to recreate this great mother-in-law’s tongue. After viewing too many videos I found yours so refreshing and to the point (I hate 30 minutes videos where people actually go away to find a stick). Nice job!!

Thanks! I must have watched this about 50 times over while editing, just to make sure it is concise. I too have seen many rambling tutorials so I try to avoid making them :)

If you use this method of propagation (by leave) actually the shoots will loose the variegate (by example if you propagate a sansevieria laurenti with the yellow edges will grow as zylanica all green without the yellow edges) so with the sansevierias the division is the best way to propagate and to maintain the original variety.

The "pups" grow in a generic shade of green. They like to be root-bound, that's how they send up shoots. I use aquarium gravel to stabilize repotted plants. It keeps the from drying out and discourages gnats.

I enjoyed this video. I had a question..i was gifted a snake plant and it has new growth, but it has the majority of it as cut leaves and she has the tips cut into points. Those leaves seem like they havent grown at all. Will they ever grow?

I've tried to propagate from my larger plant by using a small shoot but I believe I damaged the roots when I transferred it to a new pot. This has inspired me to try again! I'll be more careful this time. Thank you! 🙂

Hi!!! I love your video on snake plants. I think this plant is not given enough attention it deserves. I have a question for you. I have an adult snake plant, maybe 3 years old or more? I repotted it coz it was making big babies and almost bursting out of its pot. The problem is, when I was doing it, I think I might have destroyed or detached all of its roots. 😭 You did say it's OK since it will encourage new growths, but I'm concerned coz I still proceeded to put them in soil anyway. But I'm thinking it might be a bad idea and j should put them in water to make roots grow?? What do you think?? Thank you so much!!! New plant parent here.

Hi, I love your video. Why does the pup look different from the parent leaf? Does this happen with all snake plants or certain types?

Hi, Appreciate your videos. Do you know, why the baby Snake Plants plant's yellow stripes did not appear when planting cut leaves (not the baby plant problem is when planting leaves)? Apprentice share your experience regarding this. Thanks!
@marym44573 жыл бұрын
To maintain the stripes or variegated pattern, the plant must be divided. Next time, use that process. Lots of videos here showing how to propagate by division.

I have a question I hope someone can answer for me. What happens when you snip the stem straight across???? Doesn't it continue to grow with a blunt edge? If you're making a pot with cuttings, I don't think that's as pretty as the pointed tip....
@GiveitaGrow3 жыл бұрын
The cut leaf will stay alive but not grow, it may trigger a new sprout from the roots.
@NeedAdvice20103 жыл бұрын
OHHH!!!!! So it's like the mom that births the new growth. So if you get new growth and you're ready to re-pot it, you can just pull the blunt one off and toss it?? Makes so much sense now. Thank you

Can I cut off a piece of the top of leaf and place it inside of same pot where leaf came from?
@GiveitaGrow2 жыл бұрын
Cuttings require more water than the main plant, so I would keep them separate.

I had a snake plant in a pot with a curled edge like the one in your video, and the pups grew out to the edge and got caught underneath that lip. It deformed the leaves before I discovered what was happening. So bottom line, pots with lips that curl inward are terrible for snake plants !

It would be weird if humans could propagate. Like imagine getting your arm cut off and it grows into a whole other human with your arm.😅 kinda cool

I have a snake plant I got from my upon her death 21 years ago. They obviously live a long time. I'm in Albuquerque also. I have a tropical style garden with several kinds of bananas, palm trees, colocasias, hardy gingers and many other plants. I also have a KZbin channel called Ted's Universe. Please check out. I'd lo e to meet you sometime.
