To find the LCM (Least Common Multiple) of two numbers when their HCF (Highest Common Factor) is known, you can use the relationship between HCF and LCM:
Formula:
HCF×LCM=Product of the two numbers\text{HCF} \times \text{LCM} = \text{Product of the two numbers}HCF×LCM=Product of the two numbers
Steps:
1. Given Information:
o Two numbers: aaa and bbb
o HCF of the two numbers: HCF(a,b)=h\text{HCF}(a, b) = hHCF(a,b)=h
2. Calculate LCM: Using the formula:
LCM(a,b)=a×bHCF(a,b)\text{LCM}(a, b) = \frac{a \times b}{\text{HCF}(a, b)}LCM(a,b)=HCF(a,b)a×b
3. Example: If a=12a = 12a=12 and b=15b = 15b=15, and their HCF is 333:
LCM(12,15)=12×153=60\text{LCM}(12, 15) = \frac{12 \times 15}{3} = 60LCM(12,15)=312×15=60
Description:
• The HCF is the largest number that divides both numbers without leaving a remainder.
• The LCM is the smallest number that is a multiple of both numbers.
• The product of the HCF and LCM equals the product of the two numbers
