I wish we had learned Vedic math in our schools in Texas. I understand now why the greatest mathematicians are Indians. I never imagined that math could be fun.

Even being an Indian (and in my 50's) I have the same thought... because for one reason this was not taught to us in our schools and vedic math itself was unknown to us for various reasons. It's only in the last 10-20 years that it is being openly shared and becoming known to common people and only some schools offering coaching beyond regular school have picked up this methodology to help kids achieve for competitive exams or olympiads., but vedic math still remains mostly unknown.

Another trick with adding any number with 9 is that you add it with 10 first and then subtract it once. For example, 9+17 would be 26 as 10+17 would be 27 but remember that out goal here is to get the sum of 9+17 so the next step here would be to subtract one from our sum which would be 26. Its actual surprising on how Ive met so many people who dont know this trick yet, ive always used it my whole life and is one of the easiest math tricks ever!

Its general form is definitely harder, but I think it's pretty cool, and especially useful for multiplying two *3*-digit numbers ending in 5. 45x125=? Start with 2x4x12+4+12=96+16=112. Since the result is even, divide by 2 (56), and add a 25 onto the end. 45x125=5625. 95x145=? Start with 2x9x14+9+14=252+23=275. Since the result is odd, subtract 1 (274), divide by 2 (137), and add a 75 onto the end. 95x145=13775. 345x615=? 2x34x61+34+61=4148+95=4243=odd, 4243-1=4242, 4242/2=2121, 345x615=212175.

Just memorize all of these Trachtenberg Method rules and you'll be able to multiply all numbers fast asf: Multiplied By: 12: - Double the number and add the neighbor. 11: - Add the neighbor. 10: - Append a zero to the rightmost end of the multiplicand. 9: - First step: On the right-hand subtract from 10. Middle steps: subtract from 9 and add the neighbor. Last step: reduce left-hand digit of multiplicand by 1. 8: - First step: On the right-hand subtract from 10 and double. Middle steps: subtract from 9, double, and add the neighbor. Last step: reduce left-hand digit of multiplicand by 2. 7: - Double the number and add 5 if the number is odd, and add "half" of neighbor. 6: - Add 5 to the number if the number is odd; add nothing if it is even. Add "half" of neighbor (dropping fractions, if any). 5: - Use "half" of neighbor, plus 5 if the number in this turn is odd. 4: - First step: subtract from 10, and add 5 if the number is odd. Middle steps: subtract from 9 and add "half" of neighbor, plus 5 if the number is odd. Last step: take "half" the left-hand of the multiplicand and reduce by 1. 3: - First step: subtract from 10 and double, and add 5 if the number is odd. Middle steps: subtract from 9 and double, add 5 if the number is odd, and add "half" of neighbor. Last step: take "half" the left-hand digit of the multiplicand and reduce by 2. 2: - Double each digit of the multiplicand without using the neighbor at all. Note these terms: Left Hand: The first number of the multiplicand. Right Hand: The last number of the multiplicand. Neighbor: The number on the left of the number you're multiplying. Halfs: When you're taking the half of an odd number just forget the decimals and take the whole number for example [5 = 2, 7 = 3 ] so just P.S. There is always a zero in the left and right hand of the multiplicand just figure out it yourself I can't explain it any further 😂 (sorry for the bad english) SOURCE: The Trachtenberg Speed System Of Basic Mathematics (it's a book)

Seeing this makes me think that we have forgotten or lost a lot of ancient math that used advanced methodologies. Is this method taught in your country (or the country where this originated)? If not, I wonder why has the whole world fallen back to a primitive methodology of doing math? Ofcourse we need to know the fundamental method of calculation, but such advanced methodologies should also be taught in higher classes.

@Snowboard4202 ай бұрын
I figured out the method for 9s as a child. (works for everything else too) Except the Trachtenberg explanation is awful. xD 9 x 9 , step 1: multiply 9 by 10 = 90 (10, or any number that is divisible by 10) step 2: subtract by non 9 value (if you only have 1 nine) = 81 so if you had 8 x 8 or something else you just do 1 more based on it's difference from 10. step 2: subtract by non 8 value twice, 7 value three times, etc. = 80 - 16 = 64 or 55 x 55 , 55 x 50 = 2750 (5 x 5 = 25 x 10 = 250 + (5 x 5 x 10 x 10 = 2500) = 2750) addition instead of subtraction this time, 55 x 5 = 275 + 2750 = 55 x 55 = 3025 Might be better to just do 55 x 100 = 5500 / 2 (=55 x 50) = 2750, Step 2: plus the remainder, 55 x 5 = 50 x 5 = 250 + 5 x 5 = 275 + 2750 = 3025
