In 2000 I worked in Eastern Europe as shop manager for local luxury brand. I remember being excited every time new collection came. The quality, attention to details, type of fabrics, finishing were superb. I have pieces that are 15 y old and they look way better than anything I bought recently. I wish I had more resources to buy all the things I liked back then. I’m sure these would stay with me forever. I cannot believe how bad and standardized everything around me is now. I feel you Daria. And maybe that’s not the most profitable way of doing business, but I’m sure people love you because you are you.

Hi Daria, I was working on fashion industry for 14 years, these last 3 years were very hard for me. Everything is going wrong, products, creativity, price, pressure and especially the way they treat their employees, very bad! I decided to change careers in my 42, it scares, but I have not other way! I feel for you, because I see fashion as self expression, identity, it is an art! not a crazy consumerism that we as artists can’t use our creativity anymore, it all about money!

It’s not just in fashion. I work in financial services. And things were a lot worse last three years - quality , pressure and the way to treat staff! It was our economic system’s dying symptoms! I as well am 43 and I’m becoming self employed following Daria’s example!

Wow! 😢 I feel so emotional after listening to this, because I thought I’m the only one feeling like this. It is so frustrating and sad loving fashion and its beauty but seeing it destroyed by greed. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. Unfortunately, unlike you, I think there is no hope for fashion.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I’ve felt those frustrations too. It’s painful to see something so beautiful become so broken. Even when it feels hopeless, I hold on to the idea that small, meaningful changes can still make a difference.

Daria, I've been following you for a few years now. You've inspired me to look in a new way on my wardrobe and whole buying, styling philosophy. Your videos and inspirational ideas helped me with negative body image I used to have since I was a child. You teached me that my "basic" wardrobe doesn't need to be plain black and white. I fondly believe in what you are doing. Your message melted my heart and I really hope your message will get through the mainstream. Thank you for staying true to yourself in this though times where everything is ruled by money. As I observe my colleagues, I see a lot of hope and less buying, more loving what we already have. I hope things will work out fine for you ♥

Hi Daria 🫂❤️🌹 I've been a WOW student for many years & Bravo for all you do on a daily basis 👏💐 I try to tell colleagues and friends about quality over quantity, a capsule wardrobe, buying 1 initially higher priced item that will work out better in the long term vs cheap fast fashion, and not many people listen to me, or they politely listen but do nothing to change. I think, if I can't get anyone to see less is more and to treasure pieces in a different way, how does Daria feel and it must be very exhausting and hard as it feels like such a battle. However don't give up hope! 🙏❤️🌹 There are people that are care, listen and put into practice what you teach and appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship of fashion and everything that encompasses. I love what you do, don't give up. Everyday it helps to get ready, give confidence and make life easier for the start of the day with my seasonal capsules. It's fun, creative and I am always very considered with what I bring into my wardrobe. What is worthy of being worn by me and being in my life to tell my daily story through how we show ourselves to the world, inside and out. Bravo Daria, Much Respect and Lots of Love ❤️ Fiona 👋

My mom sewed our clothes and knitted our sweaters, mitts and socks. I still have some of those and I really appreciate her skill. Inspired by her, I set myself to sew or refashion clothing. I thought it would be hard, and it is a little, but the being able to create with fabric is wonderful.

Such an inspiring video Daria. What makes me very uncomfortable with the fashion industry, beyond obviously the social and environmental harm on which it is built, is that it imposes a uniform view of what being stylish is. We have become an identikit army of fashion consumers.

I came to WOW, it must have been 2017 or thereabouts and really really welcomed the approach of having a capsule wardrobe that was not dull and only consisted of basic pieces. I dress rather flamboyantly and in the capsule systems I saw there was no place for that. I am a bad student though, never mastered a capsule so far, just because I am more of an outfit dresser than mix-and-match. But that aside, what you said here deeply resonates with me: choosing workmanship over convenience. I have started to imagine beautiful outfits and then crafting them slowly myself. For example, I knit a one-of-a-kind pullover and then take great pains finding the perfect bottom for it second hand, or sewing one from vintage fabric. As my clothing is in neutral colors and the my color pops are in details, this allows me to use that bottom for other combinations as well. I thank you for letting us know about your journey so far, and wish you success in your future endeavors.

@@wonderwardrobe My wardrobe is smaller but I feel good in all my clothes. Warm cashmere...for Canada winter...great smooth wool pants (not icky) ...once I know the designers that use naturals materials, great cuts...I don't go in the shopping malls anymore...I use EBay used clothes (bought silk Equipement blouses) for a fraction of the price...much better feeling then polyester...much warmer...Plus, I know my color palette, which helps so much...HAve a great Christmas, and thanks for your wisdom!

I am 70 years old and mourn the loss of quality materials, garments and real style. I wish I had kept many articles of clothing I passed on through the years, not knowing they would not be available to me anymore. I shop second hand and vintage now but don’t have good shops where I live. I would love to shop vintage in Europe. I wonder if there is hope of a revival, aside from people like you? Thank you for your work and influence Daria.

I can understand that sense of loss-it’s so difficult to see quality and style replaced by mass production. Shopping secondhand and vintage is such a great way to honor those values, even if it’s not always easy. I do believe there’s hope, especially as more people start valuing craftsmanship again. Hi Daria! What is happening in the fashion sphere is a globalized problem within every art form. We can see the same downfall in music, art, design, literature and fashion included. The pressure to be relevant makes creative pursuits superficial. Every great artist or designer struggled with that: To be relevant or to be authentic. In the current economic recession that most people are living in this world, fast fashion has come as a "savior" for many people who can't afford $250USD for a beautiful blouse, even if it lasts 15 years. In the current scenario fast fashion won't go away in years to come. This is a sad scenario for artists, musicians and fashion designers as well.
@wonderwardrobe
@wonderwardrobe 2 күн бұрын
You’ve captured this so well-these pressures affect all creative fields, not just fashion. It’s heartbreaking to see how fast fashion dominates, but I believe there’s still space for art and authenticity to thrive. Thank you for sharing your perspective.
