Me and my 3 siblings were given a dog when I was 12, and they were 13, 10 and 7. And we still have him today. Me and the younger two absolutely adore him, even in his old age! (we rescued him and he is now roughly about 12). He sleeps on my bed most nights and we all fuss over him when he's poorly, as he's been a bit under the weather a lot recently. :( he's my best friend and most children are really good when it comes to taking care of a pet :) x

For all of you acting like getting a dog as a present is a bad thing, it's not. They're literally in the box for, like, three seconds because the parents make sure to put them in right before the kids come in to open the present. Also, it doesn't hurt the dog that the girls are excited to get a puppy! He may be a little shaken, but as long as he gets into a good family, that's all that matters. That's how I got my old dog, Pooka, and she was my best friend for eleven wonderful years!

he looked very scared with all the noise. Christmas is NOT the time to get puppies. Rescue places in the UK will not allow you to adopt a dog just before Christmas for this reason.

1st of all its a PUPPY not a dog lol 2nd of all they were not that excited at all they clearly did no ask for a puppy because i have 2 pups and when i got my 1st puppy i SCREAMED so loud that a glass broke not just say uh dog yay and it looked like they were scared of it when they said to pet the puppy lol i mean why are they scared to pet a harmless puppy its like saying your scared to ride a harmless horse i ride all the time im a barrel racer and i love it sooooo much!

In my opinion its good to say its a dog. Many children forget that puppies arent puppies forever and puppies are dogs already. Btw its better to keep calm when you notice you got a dog instead of screaming. It just scares and confuses the dog. And did they really have to ask for a dog? When her parents want a dog, they can get a dog. They just made it seem like a present. But youre probably 11 years old and you don't have the right perspective so its not your fault

I totally agree with you, WarriorWasser. Christmas is actually the worst time to bring a new puppy into the household - especially with young children involved. This family would have done better to wait until a week or so after the Holidays, when all the excitement and stimulation of Christmas was over with.

How do you know it was in the box all night? They could have kept the dog at a friends or relatives house the night before and brought it round on Christmas and put it in the box just before the kids seen it.
