GIVING MY HORSE A MAKEOVER READY FOR THE FIRST HORSE SHOW OF THE YEAR
The time has come to give my welsh section D horse Willow a full makeover in preparation for his first horse show of the year which is only a month away now,
We will be heading off to the RIHS Amateur rider qualifier in Febuary so i want him looking his best
Don't forget to subscribe to @KarenBadrick1 to follow along with our journey
Here I share my journey from a complete novice horse rider to now competing at horse of the year (HOYS) qualifying shows whilst being a completely self-taught equestrian.
I have failed so many times over the years but always learnt something from it, I hope that my KZbin channel will be able to help teach you all the little bits that nobody seems to share and help progress you on your riding journey quicker than I did on mine, whilst also allowing you to follow along with my own journey.

I compete my 4 Welsh section D cobs regularly in both in hand and ridden showing, from local level shows, affiliated, WPCS, RIHS, to HOYS qualifiers,
Willow - 13yr old Welsh section D - Sooty palomino
Gambler - 11yr old Welsh section D - Black roan
Donut - 4yr old Welsh section D - Chestnut roan
Ebby - 2yr old Welsh section D - Bay
I am a completely self-taught horse rider who has a big dream to compete at HOYS, why not follow my journey to see if we can make it,
I'm not perfect and I make mistakes but what we learn from it is what truly matters.

I love all the different shades of Willow! His dapples are so gorgeous! It's such a lot of work to get them show ready and also to keep their fitness up in this awful weather. His make over is gorgeous. Well done. ❤🐎

Thankyou for sharing how you turn out a Welsh D correctly. My D is very hairy & muddy after winter but with a bit of inspiration from you I set to & gave his mane & tail a proper tidy up. He looks like a Welsh again😊

Hi Karen, You’re right ,Willow is looking really well ! He seems stronger looking over all and fills the eye more. I think you are doing an amazing job ,especially given the winter weather and limited exercise you have been able to give him. You definitely inspire me , though I only started working mine yesterday, so I have a lot to do 🤣 xx

Thank you ☺️ He try’s to act all intimidating but as soon as I walk away he’s looking over like ‘come back’ 😂 The cats are new, we have had them a couple of weeks now, but yes there is two that are yard cats xx

He’s definitely looking better than last year I think too! Even his coat! Annoying you can’t full clip his face out, as at least his legs blend more naturally in colour with his dapples where you’ve tidied them up x

Last year I was trying to not put neck rugs on him to see if his mane grew better but I think it just made him get cold hence why he looked so poor I love willows colouring but it makes clipping him so hard when he is not meant to be clipped for the shows 🫣 Lots of brushing and hopefully the summer coat will start coming through soon xx

he looks lovely!! You could have a word with your vet about snipping his tail tendon? I do know horses and ponies in the show world that have had that done. dunno if that's something you would consider but you could make a decision with your vet? x

Thank you, I have had vets out to try and see why he cocks his tail to the right, and no one has ever said anything about snipping his tail tendon, i am with a new vet practice now so this is something i will ask them about thank you xx

@ honestly i don't know anything about it. i just know it's been done with some show ponies. They also do it with walking horses in the usa as they then can hold their tails higher.. yeah just ask your vet.. i havnt looked into it atall but maybe google it.. i don't know if its a good thing or not i have no idea. just that people do sometimes do it xx

Willow has very stunning kind eyes. Just out of interest... Why don't you clip his head right out instead of a half head, then you'd only have to trim his chin area up and there's no blending except his legs? Xx
@KarenBadrick1
@KarenBadrick1 4 күн бұрын
Thank you, clipping his whole head is something that ive never thought about doing, i may have to give it a try next year so then as you say we wont have to blend that line xx
