Guys, italian regional languages (often called "dialects") are not just dialects of italian... they come from Latin as italian does. They are languages exactly as the other romance languages. Why does Catalan count as a language to you but Lombard, Venetian, Neapolitan, Sicilian and all the other languages of the italian peninsula doesen't? They are recognized by UNESCO and they have their own ISO code, as well as their own Wikipedia version etc. What's the point of this decision...?

Linguist here. We use "dialect" and "language" completely interchangeably in the field. If we want to talk about the differences between, say, Peninsular and Mexican Spanish, we often refer to those as "subdialects." The notion that Neapolitan is not a "language" but a substandard "dialect" arose largely for sociopolitical reasons and is not rooted in linguistic fact. All that to say, OP's comment is exactly right.

What you call Italian dialects are actually languages. Having said that, your Catalan is better than I thought it was based on my comparison of other videos. I could give you some tips (for Central Catalan, which is the standard one and my dialect): - I'm happy is "estic content" not "contento" (the "o" sounds like a "u" when it isn't stressed, which is the case, and the "t" is silent) - Instead ot "pots estudiar" which is the indicative mode, we would use "puguis estudiar" which is the subjunctive mode. - You said, "jo tens un amigo": "tens" means "you have", "I have" would be "jo tinc", and "friend" in Catalan is "amic" just like in Romanian by the way (I don't speak Romanian but someone told me that). Remember that the letter "a" and the letter "e" sound like the swa /ə/ when those aren't stressed, which is the case. Oh! And the Catalan hesitating sound is the swa as well, we call it the "neutra". - "Millor" has a silent "r", it sounds like this: "milló" - You said "estic holandès", we have "ser" or "estar" we use the verb "ser" to say where we are from and "estar" to say where we are at (though you could use the verb "ser" too🤔): "Sóc holandès" (I am dutch) and "Estic a Porto" or "Sóc a Porto" to say I'm in Porto. - We wouldn't say "és molt bé" we would say " és molt millor". - We would say "ara no tinc molt DE temps" or "ara no tinc massa temps", "massa" in this case means "enough". And that would be it, I didn't catch the last sentence. So well, here you have your mistakes, other than that I would say you spoke a pretty decent Catalan, I hope you keep practicing it. Best regards from Barcelona!

Not Wouter doing the whole "but is it a DIALECT?" thing that Lingualizer is constantly doing 😭😭, it's getting really old and starting to show the limited understanding you guys have in languages, especially Asian languages. I know Wouter wanted so bad to think this was a "dialect of Mandarin/Chinese" just so they can disqualify this woman. You literally couldn't understand her, so it's not a DiAlEcT of Mandarin!! The Hmong people are very rare and their LANGUAGE is amazing and like she said, she's part of an ETHNICITY GROUP. At least Lingualizer had some sense this time to say "I mean if it is an ethnicity group then it counts as a language..." I feel like every time an Asian person speaks something they think "sounds Chinese-ish" they want so bad so just throw the D-word at them and completely delegitimize their culture/language/existence/etc. What are they gonna do if they meet someone from Okinawa speaking Okinawan or someone from Hokkaido speaking Ainu? "Is that a dialect of Japanese? It sounds Japanese ish, even though I don't understand it, but it's a dialect so you're disqualified! Next!"

@@valdir7426 It's more than dismissive, it's culture erasure and just plain ignorance. We're not going around saying "there's only 193-197 languages and the rest are dialects" but that's what these guys (yes, Lingualizer does it on his channel too) seem to do often with languages in China or Southeast Asia. "is that a dialect of Mandarin? I've never heard of it!", they keep saying everything's a damn dialect of Mandarin cause it's all they know! When she pulled out the "I'm part of an ethnic group" card that should've been an open and shut case. Actually, the second she started speaking and he had no effing idea what she was saying was the open and shut case, if someone is saying anything and you can't understand them, THEY WIN, END. OF. STORY. But you saw how he kept stuttering and trying to find ways to not let her have that win immediately, you could see his brain going back and forth between "holy sh*t I can't understand a single thing she's saying ::smiles in amazement::" and "BUT IS IT A DIALECT? BUT IS IT A DIALECT?", he's just mad she curbstomped this challenge with a language he's never heard of and an ethnicity group he didn't even know existed.

@@andrewjoseph5581 if you look at other comments you'll see people notice he does the same thing with other languages like regional languages in Italy. He was leaning towards the latter and he's done this multiple times (and so has the other guy in the video [Lingualizer]), enough times for people to take notice and for this to be a pattern.

❤❤❤🎉may traveling and languages bring inner peace to every single person on this planet, make them understand that what unites us all is stronger than the differences between us...and eventually make this world a better place...❤ someday in the future hopefully...

Porto is not exactly the best place to just wear a t-shirt in winter time, not as cold as Amsterdam, but still ! He would fare better down south, in Algarve or in Madeira.
