Edit: it was a supressed base giyu who fought akaza as when he returns in CHP 150 we see ki da xray of giyu while him saying " my sealed sense were slapped Awaken" meaning that base giyu wasn't in his true form. I dont think akaza was holding base giyu coz he unleashed disorder right on seeing and the same attack made rengoku loose everything. And RENGOKU batfle sprit went high after he got hit by disorder and was near to death. He didnt had all the time. Take hashira training example sanemi 2nd fastest hashira and they were still matched, it even says in "rumors of ds" ( databooks). I agre base rengoku is higher in terms of speed as Rengoku was ranked 5 and giyu 6th but i'd say base giyu> rengoku overall.

I can generally agree with pre HA Giyu losing to Rengoku. After all, the only feats of this Giyu form are blocking the strongest attack of a Lower 2 or 1 level Demon via a bloodlusted Rui via Dead Calm (though that was likely to just make sure Tanjiro and Nezuko were safe rather than actually being needed for an in verse explanation) and then one shorting Rui (whose neck is more durable than his red Webs), restraining Base Shinobu with no damage (unless you count the hole she made in his haori) and potentially not reacting much to the Gyomei clap that clearly shocked all of the other Hashira and spooked them (though, we don’t know since we don’t see Giyu’s actual reaction, so this is very iffy). And if you want to include the spar against Sanemi, if I’m remembering things right, that happened right before the Infinity Castle arc, so I would count any feats or impressions you could get to that to ICA Base Giyu. Now, I don’t exactly think Kyojuro winning is an easy thing since those Giyu feats appear to be casual, and Giyu has some really solid defence, but saying the Water Hashira wins at this point is an insane stretch to me. Now, for ICA Base Giyu vs Rengoku. While your points are good, there are a few things I feel need to be considered. First off, is that ICA Akaza has had around 7 more months to train and eat since his fight with Kyojuro, and while this isn’t something I would say makes Akaza 2X stronger, he would have gained a good boost. Even more so when after the EDA, Akaza would likely be more motivated to train and eat than normal thanks to an Upper moon being killed (with Tanjiro being the one to kill Gyutaro possibly adding even more motivation), and his interactions with both Doma and Kokushibo adding more. Than when there was around over a month left before the ICA, Akaza would have learned that Upper moons 5 and 4 both died (and if he knew Tanjiro beheaded Hantengu, it would likely add more motivation again), so at worst, ICA Base Akaza could potentially be around the level of power he was during the Mugen Train while the Compass was activated (though this is hypothetical, but if you think that Akaza saying he’s happy he killed Kyojuro so he could see ICA Tanjiro means he already thought the Kamado was stronger than Rengoku, it adds more evidence to Akaza growing stronger than his Mugen Train self). And then when you consider how Akaza’s attacks are magnetically drawn to your weak points, and how Giyu is a defensive fighter, it means Giyu is at a greater disadvantage against the Upper 3 than Rengoku was (even more so when you remember Akaza has fought Water Hashiras enough to instantly recognise the 11th Form as something completely new the moment he saw it). And while this doesn’t scale Base Giyu to full power Akaza in anyway, we do see him slicing through the Demon’s limbs enough to save Tanjiro from death when Akaza is drawn with those serious/bloodlusted expressions. Oh, and a final thing is that Giyu does confirm that after Sabito’s death, he had constantly been holding back subconsciously, and that mental block was removed against Akaza, meaning that Giyu got an extra boost on the stats he already showed before that moment. So overall, I personally say that ICA Base Giyu wins at Mid-High difficulty (but if you are using Death Amp Rengoku without the risk of him bleeding out via the stomach wound, then Rengoku beats this Giyu at Extreme Difficulty). The Marked forms will still be winning since those are just automatically stronger than Base Giyu.

Alot of the stuff about Akaza potentially getting stronger I left out because I felt it wasnt necessary. Even if hes stronger slightly, I believe hes holding back his power until he fights marked Giyu and its impossible to for me to quantify how much hes holding back + take into account a hypothetical variable that we aren't even sure is true. The Giyu holding back thing I dont neccesarily agree with completely but I get where ppl are coming from on it and we dont see really anything from base giyu without the supposed nerf so no real reason for me to include it. Admittedly, I feel like they are free game when it makes sense for a character, like with Akaza eating and training post Mugen Train, but I’ll acknowledge that not including them can be a safer route. Though even then, I feel like it’ll be a good idea to acknowledge hypothetical boosts if you think they make sense, even if you end up not using them since that makes quantifying things even more difficult. And as for the Giyu mental block, I like to consider it in the same fashion as Muichiro’s implied Memory amp (even if the boost isn’t the same). Aka, you believe in one of them, then it is fair to assume the other actually boosts the character’s stats as well, regardless of if you think one is better than the other. Also, it’s no problem! After all, even if we don’t agree on an end result with some things, like how much SSVA Base Tanjiro scales to a Taisho era Hashira, talking about the topic with you is honestly really fun, especially when we can point out something new to each other that makes the other reconsider some things on a topic.

@@NasaKun28 same, as well that giyu's breathing techniques were nothing new for akaza while rengoku had the advantage of being the first fire pillar he fought so he didn't know the techniques. It's also heavily implied that the pre hashira training arc are a level bellow post hashira training arc. It's also stated that sanemi and gyomei had a huge powerup due the training arc this I mentioned in the databooks. So it wouldn't really make sense anyway.

I think Akaza essentially no differ Rengoku personally. Like maybe you disagree but at least in the anime its hilariously clear that Akaza is not serious until then sun is about to show up. I say this because the entire fight Akaza just bullied Rengoku like genuinely actually looking back Rengoku got cooked and then on top of that Akzaz never shut up, never lost his smile, never locked in even slightly. Its very clear that even if you think the Akaza Rengoku fought was strong than the one Giyuu fought Akaza was simply speaking playing with his food and could have killed Rengoku damn near whenever he wanted especially since he was making the whole become a demon sales pitch meaning he was probably actively not killing Rengoku till the final clash.

I actually think that Annihilation is Akaza's strongest attack, due to Tanjiro's reaction to the attack and Akaza using this exact move to kill himself. So I think that's the only thing that can give an advantage to Rengoku vs Marked Giyuu. I don't think that Giyuu is able to fully stop the 9th form and if Rengoku catches him, it might be over.

Giyu fighting style water breathing is defense based and hes basically the best hashira defensively, rengoku only edge is his physical strength, giyu has more skills because he was literally trained by a hashira one of thee best ever water hashira's, meanwhile rengoku learned fire breathing on his own reading a book of torn up pages, that flaw is what caused his death he didnt have complete proper training but he has a high IQ which is how he was able to learn by reading a destroyed book, giyu would win specifically because hes more experienced and had better training their is no debate, the battle would be close but dead calm the breathing form he invented alone would end the whole fight if they went against each other, that alone says enough, the style he created is lighting fast attack and defensive wise

Akaza didn’t even use 3 techic in total agaist Rengoku and held back Quite a alot. You seriously saying Giyuu had to train to be at Rengoku's Lvl? Bro Giyuu didn’t even participate in Hashira training untill very later on where he missed much of that time. Honestly these are good points but I really don't agree with some. Akaza was clearly stronger in Infinite Castle because he starts his fight with Tanjiro and Giyu holding back as well as against Rengoku, this is proven after Giyu awakens the mark, which gives him an increase in all skills and Akaza still managed match easily, which proves he was holding some power there, and Giyu whith mark is of course stronger than Rengoku. About the kick, it's a good point I think, but Rengoku also took a kick like that and without using any demonic technique. Honestly there is nothing that proves that Rengoku is stronger than Giyu base before Hashira training, the same goes for Giyu here, I even understand saying that one may be a little stronger than the other in this part but saying that there is no chance? serious ? Well Rengoku became Gyomei here and I didn't even notice
