Just graduated to Phoenixcall. This P5 looks very interesting uograde after getting my first ultra budget 10mm DD + 6mm Planar which has such a unique fun sound.

They look very promising, I hope Aful will launch them with a competitive pricing because for 11.11 it could be a really good set to get and an absolute bargain if with some discounts it comes in around 200-250$. I currently own the Myer Audio D41 and these Performer 5+2 seem to have a very similar bass/mid frequency response (which I really appreciated) and a more refined treble/air region, so I'm really curious to find out if these might be a good upgrade for those who, like me, like this type of tuning and want to get a more detailed sounding IEM with even better technicalities.

@jekdjons413 Don't get me wrong, I am a happy owner of the D41 and I think they stand a notch above the Performer 5 themselves, but even they have several aspects where there is room for improvement. The 5+2 seem to have more linear highs (whereas the D41s have an annoying 14kHz spike, though that's easily fixed with a little EQ) and probably faster and sharper bass as well, which would make them a pretty much perfect set from my perspective. Looking at the 5+2's driver envelope, I would expect that they could represent an upgrade, though perhaps not a gigantic one (after all, graphs can only tell you so much). At Aful they know their stuff, so we will see if they will be able to surprise us :)

The P5+2 has more bass, which makes it more exciting and engaging in its own way. The Pilgrim is neutral while the P5+2 has a neutral with bass boost sound signature. The bass on the P5+2 grabs your attention. Its planar treble also has a distinct character typical of planar drivers with its unique quality. The Elysian Pilgrim, on the other hand, is noticeably more resolving, with more precise imaging, better layering and instrument separation. Both IEMs have excellent timbre and sound natural to me, but the P5+2 has a fuller lower midrange, which gives certain instruments a richer tone in comparison. However, the Pilgrim still has the superior resolution, detail, and separation without sounding analytical.

The DUNU SA6 MK II is definitely one of my favorite IEMs. The bass on the SA6 MK II is faster, but if you're looking for a strong slam, the P5+2 really packs a punch with its dynamic driver. It just has that impressive DD bass quality with a good sub-bass rumble. When it comes to the mid-range, the P5+2 is more forward, which makes vocals pop. But the SA6 MK II really shines in terms of resolution. It has better detail, layering, and separation. The MK II also has a lovely airy, sparkly treble with a wider soundstage that makes everything feel more immersive.

I liked the Tea Pro, best set I've used so far the next best being the Hype 4 I think they are both just as good in music with the Tea Pro being a bit more technical in game to me. Mine had a defect with channel imbalance on the left side so had to return it.

Nice review! Currently rocking Zero:Red with an adapter, but I'm looking for an iem, for an iem that would be an endgame. The most priciest I looked on is Dusk and Tea Pro, and with release of P5+2, now I have a hard time choosing. I want something with more treble details, and a wider stage. Is it even worth paying extra for Tea or Dusk, or P5+2 will be enough?

The P5 sounded too laid back to me, even like it's "compressed"

Hi Axel, nice and informational review! I just wonder. Not so long ago, you reviewed the Cantor. And I remember that those were really good. If you compare the 5+2 to the Cantor, the Cantor is obviously the more technical IEM and the 5+2 the more "fun" but less technical IEM. In your opinion, what do you prefer? I myself found out that technical IEM'S are more my taste. I know it's a difficult question because everybody has got his own taste. But I was blown away by the technical performance of the Pilgrim. Now, the Cantor is the newest reasonably affordable technical brilliant IEM, which is even better than the Pilgrim regarding the price.

I listen to both and enjoy each for different reasons. The Cantor has endgame-level of detail, so when I want to catch every nuance in the music, I reach for it. It has a monitor-like reference tuning with top-tier clarity, detail, and separation. On the other hand, the Performer 5+2 is more of an all-rounder. While I’m not a basshead, I do appreciate good bass, and the P5+2 delivers, making it great for pop, hip hop, and EDM. I use it for the fun factor. I also value detail, and the P5+2 offers plenty, though it’s obviously not on the same level as the Cantor. Still, I love its bass, tonality, and detail for everyday listening.

I listen to a lot of metal music, and the P5+2 totally nails it for the genre. Great bass and impactful drum kicks. The vocals are clear and right up front, striking just the right balance without going overboard. And the treble is detailed and crisp without being harsh.
