I got the Sony speakers and the Fosi amplifier. They sound great together on my desk. I discovered the acapella group Fairfield Four, with These Bones. The vocals sound fantastic on my setup. I also bought some Guns N Roses cd's. They still sounded very good. I do not feel to upgrade just yet. And I have just listened to 100.000euro speakers on a show.

Last week for my birthday, my daughter bought me a Aiyima D05. I has fiber, coax, and USB inputs and RCA inputs. I wanted it for my PC sound system. I love it. It is $149 on Amazon now. I think she picked it up for around $130. I don't need a DAC. It has OK tone controls. Also it has a Sub-Woofer out. I am very please with it.

My friends used to laugh at me for spending "so" much on my audio set up. I have scc5 speakers, the soney amp you mentioned and a 10in 100w powered soney amp. So to me $350 for a home audio set up seems reasonable. I later got a dell optiplex 7050 sff and a hifi dac for streaming. No complaints here.

No. Not unless you just want to mess with different dac sounds or need better analog to digital for some reason.

I think there should be a special mention for the Swan Oasis 140. Its currently sold out unfortunately, but I got them for $140 and I definitely enjoy listening to them over the Sony SSCS5. The Swans have far smoother and less fatiguing highs and the bass is decent on a desktop (though a sub is still recommended). I can't listen to the Sonys near-field without some way of cutting their treble, either through tone controls or EQ.

I have used their drivers for speaker builds/upgrades and have been really impressed. However, have never had the opportunity to hear one of their speakers. Especially a comparison to the Super Linton and the Heritage which are a similar price.

Been using the smsl dac against my 20yo denon hdcd player. Mostly a marginal change. Would be great with a computer. It did bring some dull sounding cds to life; other cds seemed very close to the 20 yo denon hdcd player Burr brown dac. Only a marginal difference. I just question how long any of the cheap China crap will last in the long run. There is a thing called The Test of Time that nobody talks about. You might be better off buying products that stand the test of time like a 20 yo Denon or Yamaha everyday player that still plays like new.

I've been using a Android box to a USB digital to audio converter the past 2 years. I've always thought it sounded great. It must have been skipping the clocker. You should do a review on an Android box with USB pro audio player. Cheap and fun! I don't recommend them for too much else though

Careful using a DAC as a preamp unless it has an actual analog audio volume control. Digital volume controls are horrible! Think of how they work. A full volume signal would have all bits turned on from the most significant bit to the least. 8, 16, 24, 32 bits.... so let's say that at peak volume, all 16 bits are ones, you want it half the volume. A digital volume control has not choice but to stop using the most significant bit. IOW your 16 bit system become 8 bits. Using only the remaining half of the bits. If you want a quarter volume control level, you are using 4 bits. IOW if you have your volume control set around 9 oclock. Some of the better ones use VCA, voltage controlled amplifier. The gain of the output stage is controlled by changing the voltage range it operates in. Thus you still get all 16 bits of resolution but across a lower peak voltage range. Problem is changing the voltage of an amp circuit changes it's operational characteristics. IOW it will sound different at each different voltage. Your sound will change with volume. Simple passive analog potentiometers or variable attenuator bridges are far better.

Planning to complete my desktop audio setup (Arya Stealth + FiiO R7) with the RB42. I'm still a bit undecided on the amp since I'm planning to get Schiit Vali3 for my headphones to try how the tube sounds so I'd like to get the Schiit Rekkr next to it for the speakers but on the paper it's a bit underpowered for the RB42. But since it's a nearfield application, maybe it's ok? If not I'll go with something from Fosi maybe.
