The quality of this 10 year old video about the RSV4 is simply amazing! What's even more amazing is how the current RSV4 (2019) is still essentially the same bike as this one! Aprilia was so far ahead of the game with their initial RSV4 design that even now, 10 years later, they remain right at the top of the intensely competitive liter bike market without having to redesign the bike! In short, the RSV4 was and still is a total masterpiece!!!

@Oac579 - Alitalia is a italian airline. They sponsor aprilia. What i'm saying is that seeing something burning with your name on it, especially for an airline, would be bad PR. Hence it is a brave move. They also sponsored Lancia in the rally championship in the late 80's early 90's and some of those actually did catch fire!
@Avus9512 жыл бұрын
Great review! Insightful commentary, and real-world issues are expertly addressed! MCN could never do a review like this. They are too focused on looks and trivial little things that don't matter in the real world.

Well, only took me 10 years to afford one but I just bought a 2010 factory with 2,490 miles. Perfect original condition except for a carbon akrapovic exhaust and I had to replace the dry rotted (10 y.o.) tyres.

@chrisnaathit I'd love to. Unfortunately we have some insurance issues specific to dealing with BMW, and we can't proceed until we sort them out. Here's hoping... BMW is leading the market in rider assist technology, and as such it's probably one of the most appropriate brands for Gizmag to take a close look at.

The "Factory" models are Aprilia's top of the line units. For example, the Factory comes with Ohlins suspension front and rear, forged wheels (I assume the R is cast), etc. Also, the Factory has the adjustable frame.

nice review! as much as the specification of the RSV4 both factory and R models are impressive... I have been lucky to ride both the Aprilia RSV4 Factory & the new BMW S1000RR and it was the BMW which won me over! Even though the Aprilia is smaller (as im only 5 foot 2 inches tall) and equipped with the full Ohlins suspension it was the BMW which I felt lots more confident and safe on whist riding hard through the twisties. Both are great bikes regardless but for me the BMW is clearly better!

Great Review I'm now convinced that the 2013 RSV4 I ride has problems even track mode. This video claims that track mode gives full throttle response but the throttle lag is incredibly bad. Compared to my 2008 CBR I would say the throttle response is quite lacking. I'm told it is supposed to be like that but I find that very hard to believe.
@ChrisMag1008 жыл бұрын
+Lynn Haag There's zero throttle lag on mine. 2 questions - do you have the race ECU, and also, when was the last time you had the throttle learning done?

Great review love all your motorcycle stuff. One thing though. You keep quoting the power as "180 horsepower" yet I cannot find a dyno chart anywhere that quotes more than 160 horsepower. I assume this is crank horsepower which isn't really representative of what you get on road. Nonetheless it's still plenty.

Odd that the exhaust sound from the V4 sounds like Rossi's M1... considering that Rossi's M1 is an inline-4. I would say more like the Desmo GP13.
@identiticrisis5 жыл бұрын
It all comes down to firing intervals. M1: 90-180-270-180 RSV4: 65-180-295-180 Twin Pulse: 90-200-90-340 So you can see which of the two the Aprilia most resembles. The reason is the 180 crank in the Aprilia, matching the 180 pairs in the crossplane crank. A VFR800 has the exact same firing intervals as the M1, thanks to its 90 degree V angle and 180 crank mimicking the cross-plane piston phases precisely.

I'm kind of a short guy... 1.75meters... how would this bike fit?
@RossWeitzner8 жыл бұрын
I landed here from an external link, and... I'm confused. I own this bike; a 2014, and I think we're talking about different motorcycles. Apart from the absurd secondary seating accommodations, I haven't experienced any of the other niggles, which leads me to believe this wasn't reviewed by someone who knows very much about sportsbikes. Is it hot? Sure. Does it use more fuel than a CBR500? Yes -- but not much more than you might believe. This isn't a motorcycle for the panty-waisted, ironically bearded pipe-wrap set. Stick to a Bonneville.

+Ross Weitzner I owned a 2010 when it first came out, and am currently on a heavily modded 2011 R model. The power delivery in later map updates is definitely better than when the bike first came out, even on the race ECU version.
@RossWeitzner8 жыл бұрын
+ChrisMag100 Fair enough. But I'll bet that in 2011, it still fueled better than a Sagem-FI Triumph -- or a Suzuki TL1000R. I owned both of those, and they both had shit fueling. :-)

Yeah, I'd have to guess the TLR was open-loop like my Tuono was. Once you got it right, it was fantastic but it took a lot of $ to get it there.
