How many rappers do you know who make it big, at the height of their fame, look around & go "I've done everything, now I realize I want to feel my feet on the ground"? The thing about Yoongi that I love the most is he's a "music kid". I think you'll understand what I mean by that. Whatever form it takes, he has to have music in his life. The piano, writing & composing, producing, learning drums & guitar, taking singing lessons, the variety of music he listens to. He really does love music.
@suzannahmontreal10512 жыл бұрын
YES, Min Yoongi is all about music and it shows, I like that. My taste is similar, you could give me average lyrics if the music is good, I'm OK. On the contrary, even the most intricate lyrics will never sell me a song if the music is not to par. Sound comes first always.💜

This song and "Look Here" made me a rap fan and now I listen to all the rap songs and rapper's mixed tapes on repeat! Who would have thought I would be loving rap for the first time in my 60's (the power of BTS!). Not sure if you noticed that Jin and JK had cameos too (fighting in the street in the first scene). There was a behind the scenes where Yoongi explained that the executioner and the butcher in the street scene were the same guy and they had made a pact to kill off the mad king (which is why instead of beheading him he cut his bindings). There is also a good video of Suga learning the sword dance (two days before shooting the video). His cadence and flow are incredible and the production on this video is movie quality. From the time of the car, but especially once Suga is tied up, the translation is phenomenal! It rhymes where it should, the beats are right! Incredible! Peasant (rapper Suga) and King Suga are the same person. Hence the scar over the eye. Suga is sick of the corrupt side of him that has developed. This is certainly one way to see this, but there is another. This is the new ways taking over from the old, corrupt ways that were in place. This is one of the things that make this so good. Duality, more than one way of seeing this, exists everywhere. That is what makes this an art work.
@cherylwalker42422 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that it was "peasant" down to earth suga who has the healed scar on his eye and has his feet on the ground looks back at berserker emperor "king" suga who is cutting people heads off and say no more. Old king suga has a sword but new suga kills him with his new weapon a gun. I don't know if that makes any sense. But Suga talks about burning or destroying the pass and how he doesn't like the suga that is greedy for power, wealth, respect... he realized that "its not true that I wanted to be the best, I wanted to become your comfort and move your heart. I wanted to take away your sadness and pain." (Magic shop)

Slaying his inner corrupted mad king who is drunk on power. Who writes songs like this??? And yes a friend of his and RMs had issues with drugs so he comments in it a lot with pill popping. Agust D/SUGA is ranked as one of the most influential producers and songwriters in South Korea, who won multiple awards over the past few years, including best producer. He debuted at #9 on Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart. He became the first male soloist in history to have a song and album reach No.1 on iTunes in 100 countries each. He is ranked Billboard's Top solo Korean Album Artist of 2020. His mixtape "D-2" debuted at #11 on Billboard 200 and it is the most streamed album by a Korean soloist. And there is just a few of his achievements. He has two self-produced mixtapes: "Agust D" (2016) and "D-2" (2020), which broke several records on music charts worldwide. He uses his platform to talk about important topics and most of his lyrics touch such subjects as mental health, social issues, the contrast between dreams and reality, etc. To put this simply, in Daechwita MV king is his past self. The other one is his present self. So he shot his past self. "Daechwita" is a genre of Korean traditional military music, which was played to announce the arrival of king. He also produces/writes a lot of songs for BTS as well as for other top artists. He was also working as producer for brand like Samsung. I recommend you to check out Agust D - "Agust D" MV; BTS - "Interlude: Shadow" MV (it is his solo song).

BTS is a powerhouse and they've built an empire from pure talent and hard work. Suga's background is no secret bc he's so brutally honest. Suga is unapologetically a GENIUS. The only thing that surpasses his unmatched skills is his humbleness. He's just on a whole other level. And he speaks facts... the country of South Korea, the genre of K-pop is WAAAAY too small to contain this man's talents. He's a lyrical genius, he produces, he can dance, and was there for every step of planning and execution of this MV masterpiece and all of his other solo ones.

Thanks for this reaction. I love seeing people discover all the members of BTS and what they can do. Because I have been listening, watching and studying for a while now, I can tend to think that ... well, this is just what BTS do. It's not that I take them for granted, but it is simply what I expect from them, and I lose that astonishment, so it's a joy to see t in people finding out for the first time. The other factor, which you didn't mention here, perhaps because you were not aware, is that this, along with the entire D2 album are Suga's solo work and were released free for fans. That in itself is an incredible flex - "other half-baked rappers have to ask you to pay, but I can do THIS for free!" Also I want to commend you and thank you for "calling out" western rap. In its infancy back in the 80s (?) I loved the energy and the pure almost innocent anger of it. Lyrics dealt with real injustices and struggles, and were, frankly, poetry. There was certainly some bad language, but the language used then was incredibly creative. Now I frankly dislike almost all western rap with the exception of some work, usually by women artists. By far most of Western rap, despite what I am sure are talented artists, seems to be a string of expletives separated by references to misogyny, homophobia, sex and wealth, fuelled by manufactured anger, and seems to have little to add to any conversation. It's very sad that such rappers seem to garner praise. I have no time for it. And yes, Suga (and the other members of BTS) come along, release whole albums (mixtapes) for no charge, which they have written and produced in their spare time, full of soulful, moving and earth-shifting lyrics set against complex layered music, utilising a completely different culture with a deep understanding of the historical significance of each reference, and the west denigrates them and their work whenever they can. How fantastic would it be if Western artists realised they have to compete with this, and decided to lift their game? There is an "Explained" video for this MV that you might find useful - it highlights a number of factors which we, in the west, do not easily even notice, never mind understand, not least the meaning of the title!

There’s a few theories on what the MV is abt, and I think most of them can coexist together. Yoongi said (this was a while back so I’m paraphrasing) that old Agust D was blonde and new one isn’t. With that we could say that his new version is taking over his older version. There’s ofc the fact that he’s using a real Korean Emperor as a symbol for his old blonde self which is better explained by DKDK in their Explained by a Korean series. And there’s the prince and the pauper. In that one the real king is the poor black haired one while the blonde king is the fake king and he’s just reclaiming his throne. Again, I think all can coexist since they all seem to be mixed up in the MV.

Thank you for reacting to this! I appreciate you appreciating the production, it really is great! This song and the rest of the mixtape are kind of surprise drops, and SUGA planned it that way! Fun fact, this was his second mixtape. The first one back in 2016 was called “Agust D”. And so for 6 days last May 2020, Bighit had a daily countdown of vague pictures with captions “D-7” “D-6” “D-5” and so on. Of course we were speculating what could the drop be, and the consensus is a SUGA mixtape. ARMYs were thinking what if they released it on D-2 instead of D-1 because it’s the second mixtape as in Agust “D-2”? And yes that was what exactly SUGA did!!! If Apple Music did not spoil the mixtape cover a few hours before, we would have been clueless. ARMYs went ballistic over the music video, nobody was expecting new music at that time since it was the height of the pandemic. There were so many things to unpack musically, lyrically and cinematically. There is a behind-the-scenes video where SUGA explains the storyline of the MV. The king SUGA is based on an old mad king tyrant (from Korea’s history) and could represent SUGA’s old persona Agust D, while the peasant SUGA is his current self. It could be said that he himself is battling with thoughts about boastfulness and being at the top while also striving to remember his roots as the “tiger born in the gutter” so that he won’t be dictated by greed and tyranny (this works both for the historical king perspective and SUGA from BTS perspective). You see the peasant SUGA making eye contact with the butcher at the start of the MV, the lowest in the societal hierarchy in historical Korea, and this butcher is the executioner later on. They were allies in the rebellion all along! Instead of killing peasant SUGA, he handed him the gun, and another fun fact this gun is called “Army” 😆 For the behind the scenes, here is a link but you don’t have to react to it! I just thought you’d want to watch on you’re free time kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYi1e2t5iqemjqs As for the production, SUGA talked about it a little in one of his vlives I think. If not in the vlives, then in one of the DVDs. He said that among the songs in his mixtape, Daechwita (you pronounced it right) is the newest and I think he created it pretty quickly compared to the other songs? All the other songs in the mixtapes are good, too! He did a collaboration with RM and MAX

I never liked rap untill I heard bts, anything hip hop to me, is too vulgar otherwise. Bad language and yes explicit. So now I try to listen to rap that actually has meaning/decency.

In case no one's said, Daechwita is basically 'fanfare for the king'. It's the military type music they would play when the king and his entourage left the palace. Very deliberate on Yoongi's part.

This song is epic ! I was not a rap lover, before I met BTS and watch this video. Now, I really enjoy all the rap line songs, in subunit or in solo, and I listen to them very often. You should react to Daechwita explanation by DKDKTV, for all the Korean historical references. There is also a MV shooting sketch on BangtanTV and a Bangtan Bomb with Suga sword dance practice. If you want to made a whole session with Lucas about Daechwita....

And he has two whole mixtapes ON TOP of amazing rap line songs.... I can see D2 being big for you. Also if you like traditional instruments with swag rap I highly recommend Lay - Lit for the Chinese flavor of the similar thing!

This song is a gem in Agust D’s crown. And the cinematography is outstanding. It cost 3 million u s dollars to make this video. Worth every penny ! I have not read through the comments, but I am sure everybody will tell you about Jungkook and Jin appearing in this. And it is quite funny ! Can’t wait to hear Lucas reacting to this. 💜💜💜

About the lyrics “That’s your reason for using drugs, cry me a river, you just got no skills” probably talks about the rapper Free-B who used to make fun of Suga and RM when BTS was still not famous.

Korean traditional military music, Daechwita (大吹打) Daechwita is a music that was used as an accompaniment when the king came or the army marched in the Joseon Dynasty. The name of the last gun that Suga shot was "Army" Colt army model 1860

I love your reaction and I was literally waiting for your reaction every time he change cadence and flow. He can really blow your mind and be like what just happened??!! LOL I agree you should listen this with Lucas too. You might also want to watch DKDKTV’s explanation coz there’s A LOT of cultural and history references on this MV. By the way, Yoongi even learned the sword dance for 2 days just for this MV. Looking forward for your reaction on this again! Thank you so much!

The American lyrics are why years ago I went looking for something else for my kids to listen to. They are half Japanese so we watched some of the jpop groups but they didn't vibe with it BUT it then led us to kpop and BTS . The lyrics aren't about sex, gangs, drugs, there's no ass shaking of girls in bikinis to sell records, no usage of slang terms for female parts and the beats jammed , I loved it, kids Loved it especially one , her and I have stayed ARMY and husband supports. I'm a former DJ and love music , all genres but what passes for hip hop lyrics here , most are nothing I want my teens singing , great beats yes , but the words not so great , so glad we found BTS.
