Just caught it on the 23rd for the re release. What a majestical movie. Since of course it got the 4k up grade treatment, it looked beautiful on the big screen. I knew watching it at home wouldn't do it justice and I caught it with a 75% capacity theater. What a animated film. It will stand against the sands of time. Probably already has.

I remembered watching Ghost in the Shell 2 on a DVD back in 2007 and it literally blew my mind at how gorgeous the animation is. Even though we all now the original Ghost in the Shell is a classic, the sequel still holds up in terms of animation. I'm so happy everyone's getting to see this in theaters remastered in 4K.

Ghost In The Shell is pretty good overall in exploring future concepts of AI/Transhumanism same with Texhnolyze and, to some extent, Ergo Proxy. Outside of anime, I would look at the Koyaanisqatsi trilogy and Baraka for something to really think over.

To this day I still wish they would've just gone full 2D animation. The animation quality itself would've aged better that way. Nonetheless, I'm NOT going to miss out on this in theaters! I wasn't able to go to the 4k theatrical run of the original film a few years ago, so I need to go to this one. I'm so glad that Anime has gone through a mainstream renaissance in the last 6 years. We've gotten Akira, Millenium Actress, Original GitS, Innocence, End of Evangelion, Perfect Blue, Mamoru Hosoda's filmography, and Ghibli Fest (Ghibli Fest is yearly) all in theaters. Can't wait to see more classics come back to theaters! 🙌

Oshii said himself that he used 3D animation more extensively in this because he wanted to invoke the uncanny valley. It’s supposed to look doll-like and contrast with the hyper-detailed traditional animation, to make the film’s entire world feel unbalanced and surreal.

Finally there is the replacement body, which is a little girl in the anime and a young man in the manga. They all exists somewhere, but Kusanagi's mind in not in them. The manga does have her returning and using her old body, in some cases more than one body, which i assume she had made for herself. But i am not certain if that is movie cannon. There is manga cannon, movie cannon & SAC cannon and they all seem to differ in minor ways, although in basic theme they are the same.

It's always something with the release of good anime films. The subtitles during the opening credits and climax are too distracting and there is no way to remove them from the blu ray version. I absolutely love the soundtrack, but in this case I feel that the subtitles sap the energy of the music itself along with the imagery that one should feel and absorb rather than comprehend. At least provide the option to turn off the subtitles for the lyrics. Please please please?
