Pacing trains in that area is not common, because I'm better at chasing a northbound NS freight with the Norfolk & Western heritage unit. I didn't notice pacing trains around the NS Southern Tier.

Conrail ordered 30 additional SD80MAC's just before the split. EMD would not allow the order to be cancelled, but allowed NS and CSX to change the type of unit delivered. 15 SD70MAC's for CSX and 24 SD70's for NS. The additional units made up for the lower cost of both types of unit. There were only four SD60MAC's ever built, and were owned by EMD. They demonstrated on BN primarily, and were painted in a quasi BN scheme.

The very first MAC's were SD60MAC's. I think there were four of them as demonstrators. BN took them as part of there 300 unit purchase of SD70MAC's. I think these four were upgraded to SD70MAC specs. Great presentation. Excellent video AC. That cab on the CN was a Draper Taper. They were boxier in shape.

@@Trains21 I remember the 20th century. I didn't get a chance to do much rail fanning. Life happens. SD60MAC's had 710 prime movers at 3800hp. Those four were up grade to the 4300hp versions.

Oh! These Conrail Quality painted SD70's are my favorite engines in this video. I did not note the SD60MAC's on NS. On Canadian National's shops, the draper tapers are too bad for me. I ended up taping the old CN units later on, but I have no idea why do we chase trains because they are so fast when I ended at a dead end close by. The day never ends, but I did not see a dead end anywhere. That reminds me! If you're lucky, then Super Mario Maker 2 arrives on Nintendo Switch on June 28th, 2019. Of course, if you have a Nintendo Switch at home along with Super Mario Maker 2 (available on 6/28), you have to experience new, improved features, including more new game styles like Super Mario 3D World in some cases, using slopes, new background styles for your courses, snake blocks, swapping from Mario to Luigi, adding water to the course (while not set to Underwater), and more. Also, I like the ability to chase trains, but not sure what the train ID is on which you're pacing? Give me an answer, please!

I wonder why NS initially down-rated their Dash -9s? Fuel economy, perhaps?? I always thought it was odd that they did that when other railroads bought hundreds upon hundreds of the same loco rated at the full 4400hp. Another great video, AC.I really like all the information you provide. 👍🏻

This is a cool series format... love to listen to your stories. Even though I am a Amateur Radio operator, and have two meter handhelds out the wazoo, and I have even programmed one of them f or the railroad frequencies in addition to the local ham repeaters, I seldom carry the thing.. So most of the time it's by luck that I see a train. There is ALWAYS a train or two on the rail bridge ( CSX?) across the Ohio, just north of the Brent Spence I75/71 bridge in Cincinnati. Unfortunately I can only get a quick glimpse of the rail traffic since my traffic is going across a very narrow , 5 lane double deck bridge at 55-70 mph with cars / semi trucks are trying to change lanes and are accelerating at the same time. This is where 71 and 75 will merge southbound until they diverge at about 20 miles south in Northern Kentucky ( "THE SPLIT") Not rail fan friendly !
