I am so grateful for the time and effort you put in making these tutorials. I am planning on rebuilding my 1976 GL1000 motor and will now have a laptop in my garage next to my Haynes manual. People use the word 'legend' too liberally; you sir ARE a legend. Thank you thank you thank you thank you.

Great video! You're inspiring me to do mine! The torque values to the bolts would have been nice to see on the screen though, without having to go back and forth referencing them buried in the manual. What rebuild/gasket set did you use, and did you find the O-ring for the oil pump face was the right size? About how long did this rebuild take start to finish, and do you have a video of you splitting the cases? And just curious, but what brand of torque wrench did you use?

Magnificent work! I'm gonna be doing the same on a 1983 GL1100 next year. Could you please let me know what was done to the entire engine case for cleaning it inside and out? Looks like it was bead-blasted or something - immaculate.

I didn't think anyone rebuilt Gold Wings, they made so many, just go find a donor - but love to watch anyways!

the US market got many more than the rest of the world. here in Australia , the market is much smaller and the Goldwing was not really popular. 750 fours and z900s were the go.

Phil Holden there was no way of knowing..bike was a bit of a mess when i got it. more rattles than a millionaires baby.. i did a total restore with money saved from stopping smoking.. :)

Maurice Gardiner I'm in the process of buying a 1978 import from US into UK and am in same position, mileage is not guaranteed and there's no documented history. I'm planning on doing essentials such as cambelt change, carb sync, fluids and filters, plugs and points and safety stuff like brakes and then ride it for a while and decide what else needs doing. I've bought the bike as much as a tinker project as a ride, I have another reliable bike to ride.

Just mesmerising! Two questions if I may: 1. I need some advice on painting the engine. Some advice etching primer followed by paint with hardener. Others say Heat resisting paint without etching primer will hold ok. 2. At 05.13 up to 0 5.29 of the video I see a "dent " on the down frame. Mine has it too in exactly the same spot! Is that by design or both our bikes were involved in the same type of fall? Much thanks.
@mauricegardiner6910
@mauricegardiner6910 7 жыл бұрын
the paint i used was VHT hi temp engine paint. spray can, i scrubbed the entire engine casings with fine sandpaper and used the VHT primer, i dont think it was etching primer. no hardener and just cured with the heat of the engine. i think the small indent on the frame is where a sidecar was fitted at some stage. not 100 per cent sure . but it did have a sidecar once and the fellow i bought the bike from said that was the cause.
@josephvella6669
@josephvella6669 7 жыл бұрын
It's very strange that mine had the same dent in the same place! Now not any more because I filled it up. Don't know if it was the right thing to do, but now it's done. I can't get VHT primer so I'm going for etching primer and paint and hardener. I can always cry later :-)
