You didn't mention it but I'm sure you know about it,the neutral switch on the bottom of the right hand side of the engine. Worth checking now because you can't get at it with the engine in the frame. The lower frame rail blocks it. When I did my cam belts I changed the pulleys and springs, the pulleys had a bit of surface rust, felt it could damage the belts. There are condensation drains on each cam cover, they can clog up with that alloy fur. Had my 78 GL for over 20 years now, love it.

Forgot about the "O" rings in the cross pipes of the cooling system, they can shrink, perish and leak a little if the bike is laid up for a length of time.

Thanks for the comments, always appreciated. The weird thing is, I filmed a section on the neutral switch as it's covered in a load of silicon sealant, almost as if there's been a leak? So I was planning on investigating it as I was aware you can't get to it with the engine in the frame. Not sure how I missed putting it in the video to be honest! Anyway, rest assured, I'll be removing it and finding out what the issue is, if any.

Please make certain of the compression status. Do a leak down test if you can. I have a '77 K2 that smokes quite a bit when warming up. Once running it clears, but while you've got the engine out its worth finding out if the rings are good. You have to split the crankcase on these to get at them. I know it's a pain, but if it smokes when you have completed the restoration you'll kick yourself. Good luck with it, I hope all goes well. 👍

Those O Rings can be Refreshed by a smear of non melting Silicone Grease all over.@@k1ckyscotland988

Very cool. I used to have a ‘76 GL1000, then an ‘82 GL1100. Nice running machines.
