Thanks, Doug. I'm just learning to maintain my 1986 GL1200, and this is my next project.

Be sure to get your gaskets and and O-rings from Honda. I have discovered that aftermarket o-rings and gaskets are sometimes thinner and therefor may not seal completely

One of those 10 minute jobs . What you can't hear towards the end of the video (because of engine noise) but see me doing, is my telling you to feel the fuel pump for rattling . It should rattle occasionally as it means it is functioning . Also I reminded you to check for fuel leaks or any signs the engine may not be getting fuel . Thanks for watching .

I prsume you mean the joint connecting the fuel pump output to the carburetors. Correct fuel flow takes the fuel from the petcock at the tank, through the fuel filter, and to the pump. From there it goes to the joint. (it is basically a metal "T" fritting) The fuel the runs from the joint to each side of the enginee feeding the rear most carburetors on each side . From the rear carbs there is a connection pipe to the front carbs (I connection pipe per side) These pipes seal to the carbuerator bowls via o-rings, Let me know if I can be of more help

Doug; Mine quit after sitting 18 months. Should I check the relay first or just order a new pump like you did

Always go through all the normal diagnostic steps. It could surprise you and be something stupid but cheap

sand points in top of fuel pump should run then

Shouldn't you have replaced in fuel filter too?
@dougreno33915 жыл бұрын
In this case, no. I had replaced the filter while diagnosing the pump.

What was the issue you to make you change the fuel pump? Asking because I'm having a full throttle bog down at high speeds, also harder starting after a ride as if it's getting overheated.
@dougreno33914 жыл бұрын
The fuel pump just quit working . In your case I'd suspect pump or filter .
