I replaced my stator on my 1986 aspencade myself. The videos online really helped me and gave me the courage to tackle it myself. I didn't use any sealant on my main rear gasket and had no problems with leaks after refilling and riding it for 300 miles.Thanks for the videos!

I just wanted to say thank you. Your videos are a world of help and have made me a buttload of money. No one works on these things in my area and I have been filling that gap lately. Thanks again.

I have physical limitations but wish I could find someone in my area (Kansas) to work on mine . It needs a starter clutch. I wonder if replacing the stator at the same time is a good idea since most of the work would be duplicated if doing them as separate projects. I just don't know how big of an issue the stator going bad on these things is.

After finishing replacement of mine last night I have a few suggestions. First bag and mark all screws and small parts taking lots of pictures along the way. Also besides soldering your stator wires and doing away with the connection clean your connections on the starter solenoid, battery, and especially where the ground wire bolts to the frame I sanded mine to bare metal. I made a second wire grounding the battery to another part of the frame just for security. Also use bolts and washers to press the stator into place. I did not trust the Phillips head screws not to strip out during this part. Once it’s pressed in then use your factory screws to hold it in place. This is not an easy job but can be done by an average do it yourself mechanic using basic metric tools. Personally I spent around 28 hours total from start to finish. Someone else may do it faster I’m sure. My bike runs great now and hopefully will give me years of use. Hope this helps!!!

Follow up to my comment. I suggest spending the money on a gasket as the silicon may start leaking as mine did. Also replace the slave cylinder as Murphy’s law will make you wish you had. My stator has already had a leg go to ground so I need to do it all over again.

I was going to mention having done this job in 2009, only to have the new stator crap out 1 year later, then seeing your one year later post. That's why I have an alternator on my 1200 now. Poor Boy kit was what these things needed when new.

Just did an 85 1200L. The injected one. Dad was lead tech at Leipold Motor Sales Honda here in Ottawa for 36 years, and I was there for about 8 years before opening my own shop. I still dread these things. Good money jobs, so I do them, but if it was mine, it'd get the Chevy alternator conversion. LOL

Excellent Video. I would like to ad , when fitting the new stator make sure no part or sharp edges of the case touch the windings in any way. if they do, clean the case up a bit with a file or dremel before securing the stator in the case. Thanks for this video.

5.27.14. It's too bad Honda didn't fit a brushless field controlled alternator, like Yamahas XS1100/850/750 models. They are less troublesome than permanent magnet alternators. Their regulators are better also. Not to mention pulling an engine to service the Wings alternator! Still a great bike.

Hi, how did you manage to remove the stator? in the video you can not see, you remove the screws, but the stator is still held in the center, and it can not be removed so easily, could you explain how you made that step? , and to put back the new one? Is that going to pressure, how have you done to introduce it again? um greeting and thanks
@Kwhopperfan2 жыл бұрын
Once the screws are removed the stator comes off. The centering collar of the housing just lines it up.
@aaronhawksley2053 ай бұрын
The stator SHOULD come out quite easily, but as was the case with mine, there was something dried on the back of the stator that bonded it to the cover. A little bit of prying with a screwdriver got it loose. Rubber mallet may do the trick also.

What would cause the chain for the starter to brake on my 84 Honda goldwing 1200 looks like the link came off but I’m hoping the motor is still good

1979 Goldwing continued. It seems like that it's not getting any spark. Is there any other fuse that I've missed? I traced the starter button wires down to a large junction connector box and I didn't see any burnt wires there. It does look like that they go to the coils. I'm at the end of what it could be. I feel that it's something simple because it happened when it was shorted out while he was riding the bike. Can you help us? Thanks John

Check the kill switch on the R hand side of the handle bar is not the problem. They get gunked up, and short out.

Hello my friend has a 1979 Goldwing and as he was riding it this past weekend the wire that goes from the positive battery terminal to the original inline fuse and shorted it out. We go it home and replaced the fuse and the burnt wire. But it won't start. so he had a starter solenoid and we replaced that as well. But still won't start. When you push the starter button on the handle bar it doesn't do anything. So with the key and the run switch on I jumped the starter and it still won't start
