Glacier national park was designed as a road tripping park in addition to it being a great place to backpack, if you can deal with the inclement weather that changes so suddenly. Steven Mather commissioned the Going to the Sun road for those who could do nothing else but drive and do day hikes. I was only able to spend one day there back in 1993 and have always wanted to go back. I did that board walk trail. You are bringing back so many memories for me. I so want to go again!

15:30-Looks like it is pretty windy with the trees growing naturally at a 45 degree slant. I always liked going to Glacier right after Labour Day when the crowds have thinned out with the kids going back to school but everything is still nice and green. A little chilly at night sleeping in the back of my pickup but nice and quiet. Be blessed Cat!

Brings back some memories! Back in 2013 my husband and I bounced around camping and day hiking Glacier National Park (my favorite park)! We had hiked to Grinnel Lake and were just starting to head to the boat dock to catch a ride back to Many Glacier when a small group of people came up saying they had seen a Mama grizzly with two cubs near the bridge by Hidden Falls. We slowed down and let the crowd of other people pass us. We joked that the bears would be too full before we caught up them. But a ranger caught up and saw we had bear spray and asked us to help unsure of what was happening. Turns out they were to busy foraging to care about the people. I managed to get a few decent photos including one of the cubs munching a dandelion. It was surely an adrenaline rush! Two Medicine was my favorite portion of the park ! Now we are waiting for our son to get his "hiking legs" and better obedience to return!

I was in GNP and saw more bears than YNP. Was fishing in the river coming out of Lake McDonald and heard some rustling and the black bear comes out maybe 20 feet from me. We both looked at one another, I froze he sniffed and took off across the to the other side of the bank. Just thinking of that sends chills up my back but GNP is a wonderful place. Thanks for the video.

Thanks that was awesome! And you’ll notice that it’s the bear that’s the high point of the trip... even though people might complain about them, they usually offer the most excitement. When we were camping on Jackson Lake we had a mama bear and 2 cubs come through out campsite every evening at dinner time. You just can’t get thrills like that at the Best Western motel! Lol!

Your best video . . . so far! The colors were on display and screaming to be photographed and did you ever take advantage of the opportunity. In August of 1995 I did a six day backpacking trip in Glacier and did not see a single bear, although we saw fresh tracks every day. How about that "Going to the Sun Road". I've been to every state in the lower 48 except Delaware and Rhode Island and most of the major national parks and Going to the Sun Road is the most scenic road I've ever traveled. Fantastic video Catherine!
@CatherineGregoryAdventures

Thank you so much Bryan! The beautiful scenery is the star in this one. Glacier is one of the most beautiful places I have been to thus far. Crazy you didn't see a bear. I felt like they were everywhere. Almost everyone we spoke to had seen one. I'm not sure if it was because they are so close to hibernation? The "Going to the Sun Road" was phenomenal! I need to go back when the entire road is open. We got very lucky because the window that is was open was incredibly short. It closed again the following day. I really would have missed out had I not seen those incredible views. It's a special, magical place for sure.

Great videos of the Park when it's off-season! I have been visited the Park a lot, but during the summer months only. Oops. I was there around New Years one time for a short time -- pretty cold. Omg!! Absolutely beautiful🙌🏽🙌🏽 How lucky you are to get to see such beautiful places!! When I see your shots, it brings tears to my eyes. Like, how have I missed this?! How come no one told me before? I’m a home owner & recently I’ve felt this house is so constricting. These four walls are driving me crazy. The grizzly😱 how do you react if you are on the trail & there’s no car to retreat to? Do you just drop & stay still? At what point do you spray the bear spray? That’s one reason why I’m so scared to get out in nature. Thank you for sharing your experiences. You’re inspiring 😊

Went on a bike trip to glacier I will never forget biking uphill a good part of the morning then a beautiful decent. A lot of hiking that makes me cringe now, no bear spray. Gift shop tried to sell us backpack bells, we said that doesn't sound effective. Someone walking out said oh its not for you its a dinner bell but don't get them its difficult for the bears to pass them after they eat you.. We of course went anyway, 25 years ago were has the time gone.

Looks amazing and we are dying to visit (without the crowds!). What time of year did you go?

My profile pic was taken in mid Sept 2016 with Hidden Lake in the background. The Going to the Sun Road had been closed the day before because of snow but opened on this day. I got lucky. Fall comes early there!! I live in Vermont and fall is just getting started here in September! I want to go back this Sept right after Labor Day but now I'm reading that the Lodges inside the Park are already booked. I may rent a camper and stay in a campground which are "First Come First Served".

Glacier is the most beautiful National Park I have visited. Good luck with your lodging on your trip. Thanks for watching!

@@CatherineGregoryAdventures I totally agree. I have been to 16 of the best known National Parks out West and in Alaska. I have been on short trips thru Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Glacier twice but I want to go back to Glacier and spend a whole week. I've always driven my own vehicle on the Going to the Sun Road but this time I want to ride in one of the old Red Buses so I can just focus on the scenery and taking pix. If you keep making videos, I'll keep watching. ;-)

As a kid we took the Highway to the Sun during a summer vacation from Spokane. I am now 58 years old and planning on going back this summer 2018 with my three little dogs. Thank you so much for the peak to remind me what it’s like. You did a wonderful job and you have a great spirit! I just wish I could do some hiking but I have some disabilities that prevent hiking. I would like to ask that if I go towards September do you think that the roads would still be open, the tourist season over, and hopefully some hotels or motels and restaurants would still be open? Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know that you did a wonderful job and I loved your video! Thank you! Reed

Hi Reed! Thanks for sharing your fond memories. I'm glad my video brought some of those back. You should be fine in September if you are going the first couple weeks or around Labor Day Weekend. We were there the 2nd week of October. There is still so much beauty to see without hiking. :) Thank you for the kind feedback. I appreciate you watching.
