Super high you could walk underneath the truck.

There is no denying that the Gladiator looks to be an awesome piece of equipment, but here is where they lose me. I thought the purpose of using a pickup truck was for the element of surprise with a repo. This boom just sticks out and can be seen AND the winch is inside the bed of the truck and blocks you from using that bed for anything else. When you try to use a pickup truck as a tow truck, you have the overhang after the rear wheels which reduces the towing ability; on a dedicated wrecker, the frame cuts off right at the spring hangers. If the boom is NOT going to be hidden, based on what I just pointed out, why not use a dedicated wrecker at this point? What purpose does it serve to use a pickup truck body?
@detroitwrecker8 жыл бұрын
A new Wrecker can cost over $80k. A new pick up truck w/ a Gladiator is significantly less expensive.

Our repo company has wreckers and regular pick ups. Honestly at a distance it looks like a tailgate with stuff in the bed. A sneaker doesn't distribute the weight like a minute man or a gladiator

An underslung Century style lift doesn't stick out and leaves the bed or deck free for storage while being much more compact and quite easy to install. The cost to fab either style lift is similar and modding a stock bed if desired vs a traditional deck would be no big deal to kit. Cutting the truck is also no big deal as these trucks are going to be used up doing repos not returned to service. Side pulls with snatch blocks on the any wheel lift are easy meat. It's nicely made but kind of an odd duck. Any truck dedicated to recovery is a "dedicated wrecker" including all the light duties with whatever wheel lift installed. The point of using pickups is they're cheap and expendable with any wheel lift outliving several trucks.

How much would it cost to have this unit installed on a 2013 Silverado 6ft bed.
@detroitwrecker7 жыл бұрын
The unit starts at $12k cash and carry. If we install it. We will reinforce the frame and send her to the spring shop for added leafs and helpers. That minimum cost is close to $17k. Here is a link to the way we reinforce the frame. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIHbiHaMfsx3hq8

80 inchs out under lift, that's a lot, no way are you going to have control of steering, with that leverage, your not going to have enough weight on the front end even at half the 80 inchs out with a pick up towing another pick up front end, been there done that, not nice

Romppai's Outdoors - That's correct, towing a vehicle fully extended is not its intended purpose. The reach is simply to help retrieve the vehicle when and if added reach is needed.
