Was seriously getting frustrated with my forehand because I wasn’t nearly throwing it as well as I used to. This definitely shed some light on how I’m leaning too far foreword and releasing it too late on my drives so the disc would usually be too nose down with anhyser. My approach shots with slower discs, usually stand still, were usually on line and with the angle so it was really frustrating me why my drives were so poor. Thanks for in depth analysis. Definitely the best forehand video I’ve seen in my opinion.

I have been looking at lots of forehand tutorials over the years trying to prefect my game. I must say this is by far the best and covered a few of my questions no one else has ever covered. The chest and upper body as well as release point to name a couple. Thank you very much sir

Chest angle makes a lot of sense. I've been having trouble throwing the disc so that it stays low to the ground esp when there are trees to get under. Keep the chest neutral makes a lot of sense. I'm looking forward to trying it.

So, you mention that we should hear the disc "snap". Can you elaborate? What exactly does this sound like? Is it the thumb snapping against the forefinger when the disc leaves? Is is some interaction with the air you get because it's going so fast? I can say for sure there's nothing close to a snapping sound when I throw (forehand or backhand lol). I've heard "snap" is more of a general term for the "hit" or the sweet spot of the throw... but now I'm confused. Great videos BTW, keep them coming.
@GladiatorDiscGolf
@GladiatorDiscGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! The snap happens when the disc leaves your hand and your fingers touch. It will sound like you’re snapping your fingers!
@rolazrei
@rolazrei 3 жыл бұрын
Not clear what causes an audible snap for you. For backhand it's clear that it's the disc edge rubbing against the lead pinch finger and thumb and them snapping together, but does that happen with forehand? Do you not let go and it rips out on forehand too?

Really appreciate the videos. I'm really trying to soak up everything you're saying and it's been quite helpful. One thing (among many) that I'm struggling with is the wrist snap/wrist position. For instance, in order to get my wrist to snap, the palm of my wrist is facing mostly forward (and not up). But then this also causes the nose of the disc to be way down. And when I do this, I basically end up throwing the disc into the ground. I basically have to hold the disc such that my palm is almost straight up to get a "level" disc. But, then I get very little snap 'cause the wrist doesn't bend side-to-side, but more front-to-back, and while the disc seems to fly level out of my hand this way, I get little distance. I've also noticed that when I try to really snap my wrist, I have a strong tendency to roll my wrist causing the disc to hyzer really bad. Any tips on these issues? Thanks!!

Good question! Which molds are you trying to forehand, and how far are you able to throw them?
@chuckcole

@@GladiatorDiscGolf Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I'm using (trying) a variety of discs. I have a Champion Boss (Innova) and Z-line Crank SS, Avenger SS, Heat, and Buzzz SS (Discraft). I actually have the most success with the Boss, then much lesser so the Crank SS, and I haven't been able to throw the others forehand hardly at all. And I can only throw the Boss around 250-280 ft at best and around 200-225 ft typically. With the slower discs, I feel I should be able to throw those better with the lack of snap and arm speed, but I usually hyzer them out really quickly and end up rolling them. Aside from the wrist angle, etc., I think one of the reasons I throw the high speed discs better is the flatter rim -- the thicker rim on the mid-ranges (and putters) seems to get caught between my thumb and index finger and doesn't come out as clean. Any advice you have on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!
@GladiatorDiscGolf
@GladiatorDiscGolf 4 жыл бұрын
@@chuckcole I strongly recommend you pause working with distance drivers at this time. Try working with mids and putters some more. In regard to forehanding putters, try ones that are slimmer like a zone, aviarx3, tactic, harp, etc. Those are great discs for forehands. Also, work on throwing from a standstill to begin. A walkup can complicate things and throw you off rhythm which can mess up your release angle (hyzer or anhyzer). I hope this helps! If you want more help, send me a clip of you throwing on my instagram!

@@GladiatorDiscGolf Thanks!! I just placed an order for a Zone. Can't wait for it to come in. My son has a Harp that I can work with in the meantime. I have an Aviar, but not the Aviar X3. Will definitely do the standstill throws. Been working on my backhand form as well (thanks for that video too!!). And I only do standstill backhands now until I can get my form better. Please keep the videos coming. They're great!!

I’m slightly confused when you are talking about a “release” point. It’s really the timing of when your wrist “catches up” to the arm, right? Just like the back hand, I was assuming you aren’t consciously releasing the disc. Doesn’t it just rip out once the wrist gets to the point where it goes past the line of the forearm? Or is there something else going on there?
@GladiatorDiscGolf
@GladiatorDiscGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Partially! You aren’t necessarily consciously releasing the disc by opening up your hand, but you need to make sure that you get your wrist and elbow to the optimal points so that the disc can release cleanly. That’s why you don’t want your arm too far in or too far out.

Be conscious of the disc plastic as well some gummy discs cannot be thrown hard because it falls out of your hand regardless of grip. Apposed to a harder plastic that you can grip and throw as hard as you want.
