I will admit that as of today 10/9/24, this is my first time viewing the entire performance of this “Soul Music” matriarch. She’s currently 80 years young and was at the very first taping of the AMA (American Music Awards) 1/2 a centennial ago. WOW! As an African-American woman, 2nd generation veteran in my 50’s I AM without words. Add to the fact that she knew the late Miss Sissy, and Whitney Houston along with the many other African-American “GREAT’S” that have been departing as of late. Thank you American Music Awards committee for making such a wise decision having Miss Gladys Knight be your first performer of this “Historic” show. Well done on your 50th anniversary celebration. It was and is very much appreciated. God Bless All Of You For Your Efforts. You Are A Blessing.

FUN FACT: Songwriter Jim Weatherly was friends with LEE MAJORS. In 1973, he called the house to speak with Lee whom he played flag football. FARRAH FAWCETT answered the phone and when he asked what she was doing she said “packing her clothes for a midnight plane to Houston to see her parents.” Those words stuck with him and the original lyrics were Midnight Plane to Houston! When presented to Gladys Knight, she said we don’t go to Houston and nor do we like planes. So, it became Midnight Train to Georgia.
