I have met her twice. I worked in high-end restaurants and hotels in Nashville. A have met hundreds of "stars," music, movies, television and stage. You can tell a lot about a star by how happy this makes them. When Katy Parry was on it seemed to me that the talent of the singers was kind of making her mad, like she was upset that people were doing it better. Just the impression I had. Dolly here is having a blast and telling the ones she thinks outdid her exactly what she thinks. Thats humility right there. Being able to *happily* tell someone you think they're better than you at something you are famous for and mean every word. (I think she's selling herself short a bit, but that's admirable humility too)

@@anastapatsak Yeah, Pink really has a down to earth feel to her doesn't she. A long time ago I heard a Pink song and didn't like it, than like 10 years later I heard another that was awesome. I mentioned something to that effect to someone I was with and they said, 'Oh that's her label's fault.' He told me that when she first started, Pink got zero say in her sound. Once her contract ended she went her own way and the music I liked was a direct result of her picking her own stuff. Don't know how true that is, but whatever the case I really like her newer stuff.

You could have swapped out a dozen of the popular artists she was competing with at the time and you wouldn't really notice. Whitney sang it beautifully and it was a perfect vehicle for her powerhouse voice and abilities. But her spectacular version doesn't make me cry like Dolly's does.

Very few singers can make you feel what they are singing and have you believe them at the same time. It takes more than a good voice. What women in country music had to fight for and sacrifice just to have a career back in her early days is unfortunate, but only the strong and determined ones made it out of that period and survived to tell about it. Dolly is loved because she's one of us. You can't say that about many singers.
