Just because a person is abusive towards their spouse or family member, does not mean they are homicidal maniacs. If you knew anything about abuse, you would know that most perpetrators do their best to hide the evidence of their crimes. Not only making sure to physically harm a person only in places that can (AND WILL) be covered up with clothing, but also in materialistic ways, by buying fancy gifts for their partners/family members which are strategically used to make the victim become dependent and also, to make it appear that (if the victim becomes depressed - as most do), the perpetrator can use this as an excuse to beat them some more (for being "ungrateful"), or if the victim dares to show their true emotions in public, the perpetrator will then be able to deny any responsibility and instead resort to ridicule and name calling (accusing the abused of being crazy or irrational) to save face in front of the rest of society. Far too many abusers are so good at what they do, that when the victim finally decides they've had enough and calls the cops or gets a restraining order, the abuser talks their way out of being disciplined and instead walks away with nothing more than a figurative slap on the wrist. And oftentimes the victim is left to deal with the then even more enraged abuser, all alone (without help from the police, nor their own families - since many times part of domestic violence is to isolate the victim from their loved ones, so the abuser, in order to gain even more control over what they consider their possession - their family member/spouse). With the victim thrown to the wolves by a failing system that isn't properly trained on how to help a victim of domestic violence (let alone care about one), it is not uncommon for the abuser to stalk and harass the victim even AFTER there is a restraining order in place. When the victim inevitably becomes hopeless and begins to believe that things will never get better, it is also not uncommon for the victim of domestic violence to become depressed or even have a nervous breakdown that is so severe that they end up being hospitalized in a mental institution therefore get stuck with the stigma (if not a diagnosis) of being "severely mentally ill". Now, because the mental hospitals are in the business of pills (not sanity), the victim is yet again thrown to the wolves by yet another government agency that doesn't do much of anything to help resolve the domestic abuse, yet instead, kind of serves to worsen the blow. If and when the abuser decides to continue stalking and harassing the victim without any repercussions from the law (or society in general), this is usually the time when the harassment gets even more severe (to the point where the victim could be in serious physical danger from a person who may not be willing to shoot their victim, though are still very capable of escalating the harassment to include serious bodily harm - or even accidental(?) death - without a gun even being involved). Now, if the local law enforcement protection agency fails to actually protect the victim, and the victim is not able to physically protect their own self from the increasing attacks, it is only logical that their next decision would be to carry a weapon just in case they ever need it for self defense (you know... until they become a black-belt in Krav Maga like in the movies... _). Now, if this bill you are so eager to get passed into law goes into effect, it could actually mean more physical harm to the victim who would not be able to legally own a firearm because after so many years of hopelessness, the victim has now been labeled as "mentally ill" and there goes their only chance at personal protection, short of hiring a bodyguard (again... like in the movies... _). All the while, the abuser, more than likely is still able to live life without a DV Conviction (because a restraining order is not the same thing), and if and when the victim is able to finally move away, and start their life all over again, this usually is enough for the abuser to go from someone who isn't trying to leave a visible mark, to someone that refuses to share their "possession" (the victim) nor accept that the victim does not need the abuser in order to have a better life. So guess what happens then? The victim still can not buy a weapon, but the abuser can, and if the abuser chooses to use it, by then, thanks to your flippant attempt at changing the law, the victim would stand little chance of survival without some kind of severe injury to go along with their severe mental illness... that is, if they're not murdered in the process. This is not a scenario that I just so happened to pull out of my Christmas Ornament-Scented Vagina, either. O.o (^_^) o.O This is a STANDARD example of what Domestic Violence has looked liked for far too many people over the past decades/centuries. If you really care about the two women whose murders somehow are associated with you or your comedy/acting career, then do them and the rest of the world a favor and put more effort into researching what life was/is really like for these groups of people you are doing a very poor job of representing. Making it more difficult for an abusive person to legally obtain a gun is not going to stop the person from finding one somehow, if that's what they really choose to do (and if you've read or experienced anything written above, you'd know abusive people do not always get convictions and therefore could still get a gun legally). Victims of Domestic violence do not need themselves nor their abusers to have less access to guns. What the victims really need is a strong community that can understand how to support a victim and hold the abuser accountable. Taking away their access to guns isn't necessarily going to end the cycle of violence, if they are not educated on and held responsible for stopping the patterns of domestic abuse so both parties can peacefully move on with their lives. I seriously hope you, Ms. Amy Schumer, can rethink this whole coat-tailing of your political relatives (or their coat-tailing of your own success), because your halfhearted attempts at altruism are not winning anyone over, and could actually cause more harm than good if the public were left to rely on you to become their political insider. Stick to what you know - telling jokes about the crazy people in Hollywood who you have first-hand knowledge and experience about. By the way, how many of those psychotic Hollywood types have a DOCUMENTED severe mental disability compared to the amount that wreak havoc without the certified label? Yet you know as well as I do that you don't need a psychology degree to figure out those kinda of people tend to be truly out of their minds in one way or another. And before you tell me that Hollywood "crazy" is different than mental institution "crazy," maybe you could spend time in a mental institution yourself, where you would see that most of the social-stigma and Hollywood hype about mental differences (a.k.a. mental illness) is nowhere near the truth of how gentle, compassionate, and non-confrontational the majority of the mental health community is (doctors AND patients included). Don't worry, if being in a mental hospital is not for you, we could always ask Phil Hartman or Nicole Brown... Oh wait, we can't. Because they're dead. And both victims of domestic violence were murdered by people who did not necessarily meet your criteria for who should or shouldn't be allowed to own a gun. Please stop using celebrity status as a pulpit for spewing forth insolent misguidance in the direction of the American/World audience. My hope is that you'll go back to being a comedienne again. No more brazenly careless political scheming, alright? If you want to be more like Donald Trump, save yourself the humiliation and fire your publicist. And if your distant relative can't be a politician without your help, maybe it's time they found a new job. And while you're at it, if you can stop pigeon-holing your very own fans and publicly announce that you kinda jumped the gun with this whole outlandish political publicity stunt, that would be cool too.

It is already illegal to obtain a fire arm if you have domestic violence history or a mental disability. I think a bigger issue is that those who feel they need to voice their opinions aren't educating themselves on current law. It is the enforcement of the law that is a bigger issue. Please use your voice, AFTER you have educated yourself. Then maybe we will actually have progress in pushing our government and law enforcers to stop looking the other way and start taking weapon trafficking and thefts a lot more serious.

If the two women Amy Schumer mentions being murdered were killed by a drunk driver instead, then would she be trying to pass a law that says every person who chooses to consume alcohol will be banned from ever being able to purchase or even drive a car in America? Because that's basically the equivalent to what her gun policy is.
@amax63409 жыл бұрын
+Linda Gremm Stop Being irresponsible. The US is so stuck in the past. No developed countries in Europe allow guns, hence no children or young adults die in schools every other day killed by gun attacks. If only you could know the disapproval rate American Gun policy gets abroad and the image it gives to your country and yourself. Basically in France we all think you are "hell no, no goin out withou ma gun". WHY USING A GUN? YOU LIVE IN A FUCKING DEVELOPED COUNTRY WITH POLICE, ARMY, AND SO ON !!!!!
@lindagremm69679 жыл бұрын
Thanks for helping me prove my point. Taking away guns from a small percentage of the population (as Amy Schumer is proposing) is not going to decrease the rates of school shootings, gang violence, or any other planned or random acts of gun violence in America (or anywhere else). Even in countries where guns have already been banned, there is still violence. Violence is not going to stop simply because there are less or no guns.
