Nice. I have an Ibanez acoustic bass with non-working electronics (purchased that way - bit of a discount) that I want to pull the preamp and battery holder hole and patch. Glad to see my thought process was going along the same lines as something that actually worked :D

Great repair tips. I've got a body and neck from two different guitars (Epiphone body and Burwood neck) that don't have their original mates, and the body has two 3 inch holes, I'm going to have to add material to reconstruct the heel, and plan on turning it into a cutaway. I might just stick some tape on the inside and use some popsicle sticks to fill the holes.

When you glue thin strips inside apply the glue to the strips rather then make a real mess on the inside of the guitar that will be visible through the sound hole.

hope you understand this is a technique not a real guitar. There are many ways to do any one repair. So lets enjoy some comic relief

Wow--that dust/glue trick worked GREAT to hide much of the visible defects that remained after the patch went back in! It turned out very nice indeed...

I note you reaching over your belt-disk sander. You might want to look at pulling the switch off the machine and putting it on the end of an extension cord (no less than 12 gauge for your toy). With a rare earth magnet screwed to the outside of a plastic electrical box, you can move the switch to a more convenient location. Doing this has saved me miles of walking to turn on either of my dust collectors. Just for reference, I used the nearly one hundred pound pull magnets, but have also used three or four of the smaller ones that, combined, required about forty pounds of tugging to free.

Ok so during the repair process, towards the end, can you break down how long you need to step on the piece and with what kind of shoes I'll need to be wearing? Also, I'll need to know much I need to weigh at the time of stepping on the piece and what type of concrete floor I should use? :P Just joking of course . Thanks foe the excellent videos!

I just had a hole crack in my Martin 0015m.. I saved all the pieces. I don’t know if I will try the repair, but at least I know it can be done.

You need a simple magnet separator, for which sites like K&J magnets offer plans. They work much like a paper cutter. Because they're wood, they don't get tangled up in the magnet separation process.

I was just given a 63 Gibson Hummingbird with a massive hold in the bottom corner of the top. It looks like I have most of the original fragments. Do you think it would be feasible to use this technique (applying a veneer backer) to repair it? Or, do you think it would be better to remove the half of the top that’s damaged and glue a new piece of spruce on that half?

Hey nice vid! Got a question. I have a hole in pretty much the same exact spot as the piece in your video. Problem is I do not have the missing piece of wood. Where do you think I could get some wood to replace this? Although my guitar is a fairly expensive martin, I would rather not spend a lot of cash on expensive wood. Got any ideas as to where I could get a little sheet of wood or something?

Starting a video ( even an excellent one like this) with commercials for tee shirts and mercy is always a bad idea.I usually just find another vid when it happens.

yes you can the point is to show the process. I understand you many never need this but when working on old guitars this is not uncommon.
